For your small pool any 25k rated swg would be more than plenty.
Be sure to check out the other options they sell too & how finely each can be controlled as that will be important in a small pool with a large swg depending upon how you like to run your pump.
It looks like you would only need to run that unit a couple hours a day during peak season if @ 100%.
Play around with PoolMath effects of adding with different units/runtimes to get an idea of how each one might work for you.

thanks for the input. Question though. What is the proper way to run it. Do people run them on say 50% for 8 hours or 100% for 4 hours if you need that. I assume it's the same chlorine output, but which is better for the cell to last longer? or it's the same?

It doesn't matter. Everything else being equal (good water quality), cell life is the same. 50% or 8 hours IS 100% of 4 hours.
Many here run 24/7 with low speed on the pump...just to keep the FC added to the pool consistently and avoid highs and lows in FC. Either way, as long as you stay away from minimum FC, how you run it doesn't matter from a cell life perspective.
HOWEVER, if you have a single speed pump, might be better to run higher % and lower hours. Will be less electrical cost. With a variable speed pump at low RPM, 24/7, my electric is less that $20/month.
I agree if you keep your water in balance and don’t try to run it as little as possible no worries. I think it is Jim who said after swimming in a salt pool you feel like you took a shower vs feeling like you need one.
So no disadvantage to keeping your FC at 8 vs 4.
I love mine, biggest advantage to me is I can leave town for 2 weeks and come back to a perfect pool. I just add a little acid every 2 weeks.

Deciding between brands and came across the Solaxx Saltron Retro. Most of the other brands I've looked at say about .7 or .8 lbs of chlroine per day. On the manual for this one it says .07 lbs of FC per day How can that possibly be. My intex one was like .5 I think. I even called them and they confirmed that as being correct. Am I missing something?

The 20k gallon saltron retro model I just found HERE said .4 lbs/day. Maybe you found the hot tub version specs (saltron mini) ?
Whatever you decide, make sure to plug the cell production and your gallons into poolmath. The above 20k model for example will only make 2.2 FC per 24 hours production in 20k gallons, and that won't be enough for the peak season. It would, however, be 9.6 ppm FC per 24 hours in your 5k gallons.

For that kind of coin you could get one of these with a 2yr warranty & 1.06 #/day with possibly a longer cell life 5-7k hrs

That’s exactly how long the saltron mini cells last in my hot tub.
I currently have one of these in my pool (they are discontinued)
It is my understanding that I’m fairly lucky that it has lasted more than 1 season based on the reviews. I originally ordered it for my hot tub not realizing how large it was but when I went to return it they told me to keep it. Ffw & my intex unit died but I realized I had this in the shed. One positive about this style swg is that you can see the bubbles (looks like fog) & know it’s working. Also you don’t have to have the pump running to operate it although it is recommended.

It's a 15K capacity cell for more $ then the 20K cell. 25% more capacity for less cost with the others.
I have the edge 40 and love it but the pricing has gone a way up. I paid $850 for it in 2/2020
15 to 20 is 33% and even MORE of a bargain.
With their $5 upgrade I can get the Edge 25k for $964 or the SJ35 for $814. Any thoughts on the edge vs. the SJ35 good or bad? Thanks for the help
