My pump is about to die. I am upgrading to a Hayward VSP 950. I need more space on my equipment pad so I need to cut out some plumbing. Is it necessary for a check valve after the pump but before the filter?

You gotta provide more information about all the equipment installed, including solar if you have it. Can you take some pictures of the pad so we can see everything?

A check valve between the pump and filter is normally used when you don't want your filter contents to flow backwards to the pump. Perhaps even more valuable for DE.

It’s above water level. I only have a filter and a heater and eliminated my inline chlorinator. I’m just getting by with a puck floater and dosing with liquid chlorine to keep my cya levels down.
