Can’t get any free chlorine reading

did clean it like that last time, just didn’t know if I should add a cleaning chemical
Usually we only deep clean at the end of the season. Providing they are working to their ability, Hosing off is fine during the season.
I checked the CYA and I filled it to the top of the tube and although the dot is not black anymore if I really really look I can see it. Any advice?
Try it again and only quick glance. The brain plays tricks on you. Wanna see how ? Do you see your nose ? Yup. There it is. And now you’ll see it for the next 2 mins when it disappears again. So instant glance the cya tube. Move up 10 and try again. Call it when you can’t easily see the dot. You can also reuse the sample to test and go best 3 out of 5.

So today is the third full day of slamming and we have been between 8 and 11 ppm adding chlorine up to 12 after each test. My husband was wondering why is 12 the cut off for the chlorine if the free chlorine is still not quite at the level it should be could we put more than that in or will it damage the pool is that why? I wasn’t sure.

damage the pool is that why? I wasn’t sure.
FC above SLAM level for an extended time can damage your vinyl liner. It also is not safe to swim in. SLAM level's are built around being able to use the pool and not damage equipment.
The FC also will burn off much quicker due to the sun if above SLAM level.

So I’m starting my fifth full day of slam, yesterday we both worked so we went eight hours without testing and the free chlorine dropped from 12 at 7 am to 4.5 at 5 pm. It has held at 12 a couple of times yesterday so I didn’t have to add any chlorine for four hours. Is that good progress? I wasn’t sure how long I should expect to be slamming, the water was clear when I started but the free chlorine was zero so I just want to make sure I’m making progress?

Yup. Great progress. It’s a process and sometimes it’s 2 steps forward and one step back. Either because life pulled you away or the process itself. You’re doing great !! Stay the course.

Every last SLAM has its own parameters. It needs what it needs and takes what it takes. Most fall into 1-2 weeks. :)

I’m a bit concerned I’m going to run out of R-0871. Does this usually happens when you slam?
It happens enough that they make the XL kit with more of it. It’s also for newbs who test more in general until they just know the pool.

you check both boxes. :)

Now I wonder if a robot vacuum is a good idea
A robot is a fantastic idea. This one comes highly recommended by several members for above grounds. And was $300 before the world went to crud.

So I’ve been slamming for about a week and a half, FC levels finally are in the double digits pretty much all day long, but I’m still losing about three overnight but the pool is crystal clear.
Today though a couple times after I slammed to 12 because the level had been 10, 2 hours later the next level read 14. How is that possible? Do I need to worry about that?
