Can a Pool Leak Really Cause Algae Growth?

Currently $1570 for one that is the recommended double capacity for your pool. $10 more for one that is 3x the size (therefore getting even longer life for less).
The plumbing part is easy if you can do PVC pipe at all. Electrical may be DIY too, or you may need an electrician. I spent another $1,000 on the needed timers and electrician - but he pretty much redid my whole system, and not just a simple hook-up. Add instead $1000 or even more if you have a pool store do it all. I'm roughly saving $400-$500 per year just in chems over my past decades.

CircuPool RJ-45 PLUS Saltwater Chlorinator | Discount Salt Pool

The company that makes it is Circupool: Salt Chlorine Generator | Pool Sanitation Equipment
I am pretty sure that "Discount Salt Pool" is an alternative site run by them, but it also carries other brands. But that is the one that gives a deal for upsizing, where ordering from the manufacturer page does not (wish I knew that when I ordered!).
Circupool is an importer of white labeled Chinese manufactured pool equipment. They put their branding on it. You find the same equipment, manufactured by the same Chinese companies, sold under other brands.

Has anyone purchased it from AliExpress or Alibaba?

From experience here, SWCG rated for roughly the gallons of your pool may need to run 24/7 at 100% to provide enough Cl. All have an expected lifespan of number of hours of use in ideal conditions. They do become less effective as they age. The settings are a per cent of the time that it is generating chlorine when it is turned on - so 100% is always generating, 50% is it is turning itself on and off to only run half of the time, etc. Getting a double sized one means you only have to run it at 50%. Gives you a margin for additional output by running longer, if your pool needs it, or as it ages. Nominally will therefore last 2x longer., since it isn't running for as many hours.
OR - you can set it to run at say 100%, but then have both it and your pump only run for 12 hrs per day. Same thing as running at 50% for 24 hrs. But saves you electricity for your pump. It doesn't care much about pump speed. So most of us get a variable speed pump, and run it almost as slowly as it can go for 24/7 - that saves massive amounts of electricity. Then set the SWCG % to be whatever is needed to keep the Cl at a target level.

You are pretty much on your own when sourcing from super discount places. That one you linked to has a minimum of ordering 2 sample units, IF they will allow you to buy samples rather than a normal order of 20 units. Your base cost will be getting to the same range as just buying from a proven vendor. And the US based one will be a LOT better at support and hand-holding as to what you need, and how-to install.
