Hi All

New to forum. I just had pool refinished with Stonescapes Mini Pebble Aqua Cool. The pool builder had no startup procedures so I was on my own. I have been following the NPC startup procedures. Brushing pool twice a day and running pool filter 24/7 for the past 2 weeks while using just liquid chlorine, CYA, MA, and Baking Soda to maintain pool chemistry. Using Pool Math calculator my hardness levels are low. Should I bring hardness up quickly or gradually over the next few days? The pool temperature has been 58-62 for the past 2 weeks. Here are numbers:
FC: 2.1
CC: 2.2
pH: 7.9
TA: 104
CH: 124
CYA: 31
TEMP: 64F
CSI: -0.14

I am using a ColorQ kit to take readings. I am color blind so the taylor kit was difficult to use. I have ask some friends to cross reference my readings and they are correlating. Keeping on top of the expiration date for the analyzing chemicals in the kit keeps the measurements consistent.

OK -- We know the CH readings from a ColorQ are typically incorrect. I assume you cannot see the red to blue transition for that test.

What is your fill water CH?

If you are willing to trust the ColorQ CH test results, I suspect you should add 100-150 ppm CH of calcium. Your evaporation rates are not as high in that area and thus your CH rise will not be dramatic over the year. You will bank on some rain water dilution next winter to control CH rise.
