CAPE CORAL
At the end of a long day, I got a call to go and look at this beauty. I have used alum a couple of times in the past, but I hate the way it gums up the cartridge filters here in Florida because you never get it all out. I can't get alum now anyway but there's a box of HTC green to clean floc lying around if I care to use it. I have a portable filtration system that I can take the cartridge out of and just vac to waste. Replacing water or draining is not an option I really want to go to in this case as the house is on well water and I would not like to be responsible for burning out the well pump. Is a slam a viable option while washing the filter every day? I put 3 gallons of chlorine in and half a gallon of acid, I took out the filter and left the whole thing running. I will return tomorrow.

*disclaimer for any/all future readers that Flocc is RARELY recommended and 99% of the time is HIGHLY discouraged for its filter killing properties. Going to re-point out here that Dave has a separate portable vac system to bypass the filters.

OK back to Dave. Hey Dave !!! I bet in this one instance Flocc will work in your favor as it will have time to settle before you return to vac. Most folks vac too soon or not enough (or both) and take out their filters even after trying to do it right. You can't let it go too long either or it all goes back into solution. So vac every day or two tops.

Slam needs to be maintained to work and you'll be busy on the road elsewhere. You'd need 3 trips a day minimum to SLAM and twice that would be preferred. It would work but it would drag on for weeks.

I think it is too green to floc just yet. Got to kill the algae to get it to drop out of the water first. I am hoping that pool is close enough to you OR the owners will be willing/able to add chlorine. What you can do is leave them jugs of chlorine labeled with the day and time to add it.

I did however, I was hounded by the kids at the house as to when they could swim. I haven't been there since Saturday morning. I gave it another dose of liquid and dropped half a sack of borates in the pool. If I get time tomorrow morning, I will stop by and see if I can get the renter to add chlorine herself mid week to keep the level up. I'm guessing they trashed the pool all weekend but I have faith in borates!
