C-19 Vaccine-I got one

Folks,

Like many here and most of my friends I found the casual conversation seems to highlight problems with the vaccines. Some imply (probably unintentionally) almost everybody has serious side-effects. The engineer in me requires the facts so I went searching and found this summary of the Pfizer vaccine trials that included some 44,000 that were tested last year. I've attached the report. This report was issued in December 2020. Here's my take on the report:

• Are there side effects? Yes.
• Are they worse for the second dose? Yes
• Are they so bad I should not get the shots? Absolutely not.
• There are minor side effects up to about 10% worse than the Placebo.
• Serious side-effects occur way less than .5 % often closer to .1% or .2%. (see Table 17 on pg 36+)
• No fatalities are attributed to the vaccine.

An interesting thing that pools and covid vaccine seem to have in common is that there's not always a right-wrong. It's mostly driven by your personal situation, fears, and preferences. But my take for me and most of the people I know is we are far better off taking the vaccine than getting the illness. However, other people especially people younger than me can probably draw a much different conclusion. But if I were in their situation I'd get it for my parents or grand parents.

There’s a problem with people declining the vaccine based on their own perceived risk from Covid. Even if one is certain they won’t get seriously ill from Covid, they can still get infected and spread it. This gives the virus more opportunities to mutate, potentially to the point where current vaccines are not effective and possibly making it even deadlier.

We need to view this not only as a personal health issue, but as a community/national/international issue that requires everyone do their part to end this pandemic.

How did I miss this thread... and how come every one else wins the lottery but me?! ,... I have given up calling around looking for a vaccine. And I have a low tolerance for dealing with the medical bureaucracy anyway.. I am an essential worker in a field that no one cares about and I am old but not quite old enough for anyone to notice. So I figure I must be in category 5000-Z. so I will just hunker down, stay in my pod and wait for them to call me...grumble grumble

*****EVEN AFTER THE VACCINE*****. This is my biggest fear. Once people are all Willy Nilly that *they* won’t get sick, common courtesy for others will be even worse than it is now.

My Parents had #2 on Thursday. We prepared to help if there were large reactions. None. Yes, they had sore arms, but that was it. My business partner in Dallas just had #2 (same day as parents). Other than being tired, he seemed fine. He did wake up at 4AM because he rolled onto the injection arm!

On the people I know who had larger shot two reactions: Both my buddies in the Moderna Study and the wife above my business partner (Doctor). They all had day two fever/exhaustion, which was finished by the evening.

I'll be getting #2 of the relio dealio next Friday. I am expecting a reaction, since I seem to react to vaccines (Typhoid, Shingles, etc.). But I'm prepared that next Saturday I have my schedule clear.

#1. The CDC guidelines are now that if you have had the vaccine (fully vaccinated) you do not need to quarantine if exposed and have no symptoms.
#2. The UK did a study and found that people who have had the vaccine do not transmit it.

Finally, even one dose of vaccine prevents severe COVID-19.

I’m more worried about what’s on them instead of what’s in them. Yes, surface to person transmission is low, but if they’ve been rolling in it without a care in the world, using public bathrooms, water fountains, etc...... I dunno. I worry that those around them will suffer. I hope I’m dead wrong and there are no more surges.

Sounds like new information has come out? I’ll have to look for that study you mentioned. As I understood it, it wasn’t clear yet whether or not the vaccines prevented infection and transmission, hence one of the reasons precautions such as masks, distancing, etc was still advised even for those who are vaccinated. Then there’s the variable of mutations popping up that might be vaccine resistant.

A couple important points; precautions are still recommended, and it’s still not known whether or not vaccinated individuals can spread the virus.

That's not correct. You do not have to quarantine after exposure if you have been vaccinated AND it's been at least two weeks since the second shot AND it's been less than three months and have no symptoms.

I kind of hate this new CDC guidance, because of exactly this. People only hear "I don't have to quarantine if I got the shots" and ignore the rest of it.

Had my second Moderna shot last week, slight headache and warmth at injection site were it for me. My son also had his second Moderna and he had fever, aches, and felt like he'd been hit by a truck. Still trying to get my other two sons appointments for the vaccine. They both are over 18 with qualifying health conditions but haven't been able to get appointments. As soon as they are announced appointments are gone.

My wife and I got the second shot of Moderna on the 13th. No problem that day. But on Saturday my wife had the chills and slight fever. I was worse feeling fatigued, headache and nauseated. Fortunately, it lasted one day and back to the normal on Valentine’s Day. Totally worth it.

What we have seen in our area is people waiting outside a place giving vaccines by appointment. When all of the appointment people have been done they move to the people waiting outside to use up the doses that were set out for people who did not show for their appointments.

The Mrs stalked the online system for a good chunk of time yesterday and got me an appointment for Mar 20th. It’s a Saturday and I don’t care because beggars can’t be choosers.

We got our second Pfizer covid shot today. Process was even better than before. Took only 15 min to get the shot about 7 hours ago. I felt nothing and still feel nothing. Wife has sore arm just like last time and mild headache. Last time her are was sore for about 3 days. We both feel like we've been in jail and are getting out in 10 days. Never thought I'd say this about air travel but we can't wait to get on a plane and just go!

Took my mom in yesterday for her 2nd Pfizer shot, end of day, and they had 2 extra, so I got my first.
Sore arm is only side effect so far, and the same for my mom both of her shots.

I got lucky getting an appointment for my mom, and even luckier getting mine. Now to find the wife one.

Had my 2nd Pfizer vaccine injection today in Fort Bend County (suburbs of Houston). Had to wait in line about 1 hr before entering building to go through registering verification. Then got the vaccine and had to wait 15mins for any immediate side affects. All total just over 90 minutes from arrival to departure from site. My first vaccine at some place was over 3 1/2 hrs duration. I will get to bed early tonight and see how I feel in morning.
