Brand New Pool Cloudy— Help I’m Desperate!

Something is not right. If you are using the liquid chlorine from ace, it is 10%. You are logging 14.5%.

If you are using 14.5 to figure how much to add, you are under dosing.

With the last log, 23 FC, 49oz of 10% should be the addition to get you to FC 28.

Not a big deal, don't sweat it, just use 10% to calculate how much.

No, I have 2 different types of chlorine. Some left by my contractor (14.5%) and some we bought (10%). I started using the 14.5% so I could use less.

I've never seen 14.5% in the US. When you get a chance, can you post a picture of the label and the 14.5% designation.

Are you sure it's not 12.5%

Oh Crud. You might be right...it's prob 12.5%. I think I was thinking 14.5% bc that's the muriatic acid I have!!! :/ It's too much for my pea brain. Thanks for bringing to my attention, but I'm having daughter do again in 45 minutes, so I'll make sure she takes a pic of the label and I'll be sure to give her the right amount this time!!! I just thought it wasn't getting higher bc of the rain. It's POURING.

Rain typically has little effect on FC. It can, but not that much.
Not to open up a whole new can of worms, lol, but I'm just trying to keep my spa up on FC for now until the pool gets sorted out, but it seems like the Pool Math levels aren't really intended for spas. Any advice on that??

Here is the guide for Spas and Hot tubs...not really different, just nuance.

Royal--Been following your saga. Just wanted to give you a vote of confidence. I promise you, when this thing is balanced and clear, it will be very minimal work, and you and hubby will in fact feel a huge sense of accomplishment. Hang in there! It sounds like you're on your way. The pic above looks way better than the other pics you've posted. Poolstored will get you there I promise!!!!

Ok hubby is vacuuming again. He feels like what he’s vacuuming is coming back through the returns every time. It gets super greenish/white/frothy. Did I already ask this? Is it just stuff stuck in the returns lodged loose by the vacuum suction?

Did you have a sock tied to the return? Can he see it being sent back into the pool?

Vacuum to waste next time.

Have him deep clean the filter...Thread and videos here:

Ask this again in a different way, I don't understand the question.

Deep clean is easy. The builder did you a solid on this front.

Unscrew the unions (red arrows), and unscrew the MPV collar (green screws). When you reassemble, get some Magic Lube II (not Magic lube) silicone lubricant (NOT SEALANT) and lubricate the o-rings when you reassemble.

You can also check the sand level, should be this:

Here are the common reasons for it to do it.
Sand filter way too small for your pool. You have a 24", should be fine.
Pump too large for the filter. Pump not in your signature, but from pad pictures I doubt it.
Bad spider gasket, or some other multi-port problem. Not likely with new pump, but we'll get there.
Channeled sand. Deep clean would fix.
Not enough sand. Deep clean would fix this.
Waiting too long between backwashings. Looks like you are backwashing infrequently according to logs, 1x per day. I'd increase that frequency. Do it every 3-4 and backwash before you vacuum.
Not rinsing long enough after backwashing. How long is he rinsing?

I don’t either lol. I just don’t understand why anything would be coming thru the jets besides clear water. We didn’t know what “vacuum to waste” meant. Builder didn’t show us that— we were vacuuming w filter on high and assumed it was just getting sucked into the filter 😫

Bc we have such a small pool, we are afraid to backwash more bc we lose so much water and didn’t think we needed bc pressure not rising. Do it every 3-4 hours?? When builder showed him backwashing, never mentioned rinsing, so he only started after u mentioned (& we felt dumb)
