Brand new Hayward Power-Flo Matrix 1 hp pump problems

Hi,
Our brand new Hayward Power-Flo Matrix 1 hp pump that, after a wait of a couple of months of it being on back-order, the FedEx seeming to be circling around Rocklin, CA for 3 days before finally delivering it to us yesterday, it has stopped working. After getting proper fittings to get our hoses attached to it and our brand new 50 gpm cartridge filter, it started right up and was working beautifully. However, a few minutes later, our granddaughter asked us to turn the pump off so that she could see better to find her tiny toys she'd been diving down for. As soon as she got them all out, we turned the pump on again and NOTHING happened, no humming, no sounds of any sort. We left it on for a bit, thinking maybe it was trying to prime itself or something, but nothing. Turned it off, turned off water to it from the pool and partially emptied the water in the filter, then opened the lines once again to let it once again fill and vent out any air. Once that was done, we turned the pump on again, and again, absolutely nothing happens. Don't see any reset button or anything on this pump and the instructions that come with it are minimal at best. Anyone out here have ideas what we need to do??

Verify that the pump turns freely by hand,,,, one of the small toys may have been sucked into the pump.

Basic electrical troubleshooting:
1. Check the breaker
2. Use either a multi meter, or if you are unfamiliar with a multi meter, at Home Depot, they sell a non contact voltage tester. to determine if you have power to the pump motor.

After that it get's more complicated, but I believe that pump does not use a capacitor, but some type of starter, so if you have power to the pump, and it won't start, you may need to contact a pool repair shop for assistance.

Thanks for your advice. I had done more reading and thinking last night and recommended to hubby this morning that we check that we could manually rotate pump (as you mentioned above). He went out and came back in and said that there was some of the stringy stuff that came off the inside of the hoses when we put this much more powerful pump going (the old pump was the Krystal Clear Filter Pump Model 635T that came with the pool). It appears that grunge that came off those hoses had impeded the pumps flow. It is working beautifully now!!! Plus, we we are finally able to use our Wanda the Whale vacuum and she's tooling all over the bottom of the pool as I write this. Thanks again guys!
