bought house with Saltwater pool and expensive maintenance plan

Hi everyone! I'm so happy I found this site. We bought a house with a salt water pool, I believe it's 35,000 gallons, and this is our first summer with it open. We have a pool company who has worked for the previous owners for years. I hoped keeping them for our first year would help me learn from them what to do. They come and clean weekly but this year they are short staffed due to the pandemic and the guys who do come don't really seem to know what they are doing. Even though it's a salt water pool, it seems like we are throwing a ton of chemicals in every week to maintain the chlorine, ph, and alkalinity. I'm just not sure they really know what they are doing and I know I don't understand it well enough yet. Hopefully I can get a better grasp of it all soon.

If they are using a lot of chemicals, then they probably do not know what they are doing.

By now, they should have the chemistry under control.
