Are borates worth adding to a saltwater pool? I see lots of good feedback about adding them, and the overall benefits, but I cannot find where it specifically states that the benefits work the same in a saltwater pool. Thanks!
They can be helpful. Do you fight rising pH? What state, province, or country is West Columbia in? What is your fill water chemistry? Do you add lots of fill water due to evaporation?
We are in South Carolina, and we add a decent amount of water due to our warm summer temps. We also have two fountains, which as I understand it can raise pH due to aeration and cause additional water loss.
Borate chemistry is unaffected by salt. The biggest benefit to an SWG pool is that borates can cut the pH rise in half inside the cell which means the SWG will be less likely to develop calcium scale. I have never had to acid wash my cell.
