Borates and Birds

I'm thinking about adding borates\borax to my pool sometime this season. However, we have small barn swallow birds that during the course of the day drink the water. They swoop down and grab a small amount of water as they fly over the pool. Will 50ppm of Borates hurt the birds?

Birds should not drink pool water over long periods of time, because it can cause chlorination or bromination poisoning...
Additionally, if the pool is poorly maintained, birds can become sick from pathogens, waste, and debris in the pool, just like humans can...
Boric acid is practically non-toxic to birds, fish, and other aquatic organisms...

Hope that helps...
