Bleach prices 2013

So, I went to Walmart today. Walked down the bleach aisle and found all the large containers were sold out. Since it was after 10PM there were some stock people moving pallets around. I started talking to one very nice woman who helped me look through pallets to try to find some bleach. Then all of a sudden she had an ah-ha moment.

She walked me around to almost the back of the store and showed me the VALUE PACKS! 3 x 121oz bottles of 8.25% for 7.98! Score!

I live between York and Harrisburg, PA.

Have you checked the pool area in Wal-Mart? 2 gallons of 10% for $6.47 ($0.253/oz)
The value pack is pretty close to that $7.98 for three 121 oz 8.25% ($0.266/oz)

And both are certainly better than the single bottles of 8.25%

christmas tree shop has the same 12.5% bleach that they sell at BJs for aorund $13 (4 pack) .. for 2.69 each. just not sure if it's old stuff that would have lost it's strength. wish they dated their bottles. any thoughts?

I have never heard of "christmas tree shop" but the name makes me think old stock

2.69/(128*0.125)= $0.17/oz NaClO...if it is new, then a good price

so, i went to the christmas tree shop and the 12.5 bleach is dated 4/15/2013 .. woo hoo!! heads up for anyone with christmas tree shop close to them.. btw, i also called the manufacturer to confirm the numbers on the bottle to make sure I was reading the dates correctly. i love christmas tree shop .. i hope they offer this every year

Hi all,

This is my 1st post to TFP. Been here a few years and love the experts and knowledge here! I stopped drinking the pool store kool-aid during my first Summer with the pool in 2010 after stumbling onto TFP!

EDIT 5/19/13 - I had written that I found 64oz Great Value bleach at a significantly lower price than normal. Went back and it was at a regular, not so good price. I think they had mis-labeled it on my prior visit. So, back to Aldi it is. See price below.

I As a side note, I have been seeing another sub-brand next to the GV called "Top Job" at WalMart but am avoiding it since it has no listing of NaClO concentration.

Aldi in Roswell (my old preference) has crept up to $1.29 per 96oz 6% bottle this year, yielding a still respectable $0.224/oz NaClO

Regards,
Mark

Several have posted about WalMart Great Value bleach in the 121 oz bottle on this thread. However, I have not seen anyone post about what I am seeing as a better value in my Roswell, GA WalMart for the last few weeks. I have notice that the newer, smaller 64oz bottles of GV (now at 8.25% concentration) are selling for $1. That's right... one buck!

If I do my calculations correctly this is $.189/oz NaClO or (1)/(64*0.0825)= $0.1893/ounce Not too shabby!

I usually expect the larger volumes of products to have the better value, but that $1 price made me look twice, and this seems to be one of those times when the smaller item is a better deal.

We are in Maryland. This is our first year opening our pool -- and thanks to the advice on TFP, I went out and bought some 12% bleach. My mistake -- I started with the Pool Store. $25 for 4 gallons. We needed more. I was shopping at BJs and found 4 gallons for $13.25. WOWA! No more pool store for me!! ;-)

Re: RE: Bleach prices 2013

I checked 2 local pool stores in Medford Oregon. $8.50 a gallon for 12.5% at one! $14 for 4 +$6 deposit at the other. Nothing but $2.80 for 121 oz. of 8.25% at Walmart, Home Depot or Lowe's. Wish I could have it shipped.

Edit. 2nd store was $24 for 4 +$6. The memory is the second thing to go

Went to Rural King in suburban St. Louis today (IL side of river)

Got 4 gallons of 15% for $10.49 plus tax.
If my math was right, I get $0.137 -- please double check me :)

I believe their regular price is $11.99 which still isn't bad.

Edited to add: It says "Available Active: 15% Sodium hypochlorite 12.5%" --- so..... is it 15% or 12.5%???

I believe it is 12.5%...still not a bad deal at (10.49/4)/(128*0.125)= $164/oz NaClO

(25/4)/(128*0.125)= $0.39/oz NaClO for the pool store...yuck (13.25/4)/(128*.125)= $0.207/oz NaClO...much better!

(I assumed 12.5% at both)

8.50/(128*.125) = $0.53/oz NaClO...thats worst so far

(14/4)/(128*.125)= $0.218/oz NaClO...not bad (I did not include the deposit since you get it back)

2.80/(121*0.825)= $0.28...not great

I can't find any great deals in NJ. Ive been to WalMart, Costco, Home Depot, and Target. They all sell 121oz of 8.25% for $2.99. ($0.30)
A local large pool store sells 5 gallon containers of 12.5% for $17.99 ($0.225)

I found a pressure wash supplier in Greensboro NC, Cleaning Systems of the Triad that sells 12.5% in bulk.

55 gallon drum $189.75 = $3.45/gal = 3.45/(128 * .125) = $0.216/oz.

30 gallons $109.50 = $3.65/gal = 3.65/(128 * .125) = $0.228/oz.

5 gallons $19.75 = $3.95/gal = 3.95/(128 * .125) = $0.247/oz.

Not the best, but the best I have found on liquid around here.

I really like the 121oz bottles of 8.25%, I split it in two and use one split per day, it makes the dosing very easy.

If I went to 10% or 12.5% that would mess up my dosing.

I've been shopping at Walmart (they have other stuff I want that I can only get there) so it saves me a trip somewhere else. I have never seen the "liquid chlorine", I'll have to look harder next time I'm there.
