I'm thinking of buying one of these as a back up. Did you buy from Pool Parts 2 Go? I have a Pentair 1.5 Hp VS, do you think it's with bumping it to 2 Hp? 17k pool, 2" pipes.

Look at this one, same pump, different label. Three hp is better as it can be run slower, move the same amount of water, for less energy use. Costs less as well.

+1. Some folks sleep better with the Black and Decker warranty but they pay double for it. I'd rather have enough left over to buy a 2nd pump if needed, and then not need to.

I got a B&D 3HP in Feb 2022. By June of 2023 the pump had started coming apart in the middle and was leaking a little. One day I ran it on max for a quick clean and it started spraying water half way up my house. To be fair, the Amazon vendor (Pool parts to go) dispatched a replacement the next day and I installed it as soon as it arrived. I am obviously concerned that this one might go the same way, but looks fine right now. I have been thinking of getting a backup.

And this might be my backup. I need to check to see if it is the same dimensions as my B&D so it could slip right into place. Thanks!

It's nice to have a warranty, but also look in to how easy it is to make use of it and how easy is it to get service and parts. I was tempted to get this or one of the other branded versions of it. But I read a few too many reviews with issues with failures after a year or two and not be able to get parts or taking a while to get parts. The price is enticing and it may be a good value even if they need to replaced more frequently than a Pentair, Hayward, etc. The Calimar is about a 1/3 of the price of the Hayward/Jacuzzi pump I went with. The thing that swayed my decision is the weight difference between the pumps the Calimar/B&D is about half the weight if i recall for supposedly a similar power Hayward or Pentair pumps. My experience with motors and VFD's is the more copper/weight the cooler they run and the longer they last.

I went with B&D 3HP from poolpartstogo 2 years ago and my experience with the company responsiveness was great. When the pump developed a slight noise after 2 months, they sent me a new one within 48 hours. This season, when the mechanical seal started leaking, they sent the complete kit. Now, I don’t know which brand is the most reliable, but if the reliability is in the same ballpark, I got my money’s worth.

I purchased a Calimar 3hp pump in fall 2022 and added the automation adapter to control the speeds with Jandy Aqualink relays. Very impressed with the quietness and energy savings vs my old single-speed pump.

Last summer I began observing an intermittent E-08 error message on the pump. Never figured out the root cause, but it only occurred when the spa was running, so may have been heat-related. Pool Supply Unlimited promptly sent a replacement pump under warranty, which has been perfect since.
