Black Algea Killer and Chlorine Consumption

Is it normal for chlorine consumption to go through the roof when treating your pool with Black Algea Killer?

Probably....Its something we never suggest using . It will likely continue until it wears out or is oxidized by chlorine

Most of those are copper based I believe. Can you post the chemical name or at least the full brand name?

If the Leslies stuff, copper AND ammonia! A double whamy. Lots of chlorine will be needed to remove that vile stuff.

Yes, it’s Leslie’s Black Algea Killer. I had something from before I started using liquid Chlorine and noticed some of the Black Algea had returned, so I gave it a treatment and my Chlorine level went way down.
