Black Algae, Wire Brush, New Plaster

Re: IC60 Cell Light Off

Which cell light is off? The Cell light?

How long each day are you running your pump? With your IC60 at 100% your pump run time should be less than 4 hours per day based on your pool size.

Take care.

Re: IC60 Cell Light Off

edjanowsky has a commercial pool with frequent extreme bather loads and potentially lingering black algae remnants. Pump runs 24 hours a day.

Further info about the light in question:
All the other indicator lights were on and green except the cell light which was not on. This indicates no chlorine was being produced. I checked periodically yesterday to find the light on. This morning it was off. I lowered it to 80% and back to 100% and the light came on.

That particular light can not be directly turned on or off manually. To make it turn off, I would have to lower the percentage so it would take a break, or stop the water flow, or get too low on salt which would also make the salt light turn red which it wasn't.

Re: IC60 Cell Light Off

If they are running an IC60 in a 15000 gallon pool 24 hours a day at 100%, then they have a severe chemistry problem.

That units creates 2.0 lbs of chlorine a day. Or 16ppm FC per day.

If the cell light is randomly going off, call Pentair. There is a problem with the cell.

Take care.

Re: IC60 Cell Light Off

:goodpost: Thank you mknauss - I think you solved the riddle - call SWG manufacturer! I do not think the readings we've been seeing indicate production close to +16/day, and perhaps this is because the SWG is not running 24 hours a day as it was instructed to, but rather turning off intermittently. Defective unit or install issue perhaps. Great catch and information! I'm learning a lot about SWG this summer!

Re: IC60 Cell Light Off

ed,

The manual says that even at 100% that the cell will only produce chlorine for 265 seconds out of every 5 minutes or 300 seconds...

I assume when you are at 100% the output lights are solid and not blinking..

I too worry that you are kicking a dead horse... If you have to run an IC60 at 100%, 24/7 in a 15K pool, something is way wrong and I highly doubt it is the cell.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Re: IC60 Cell Light Off

We're smack dab in the middle of summer so running a legitimate OCLT will be difficult.
Is your pool used 24/7? An OCLT will tell you alot of information.

I agree with Jim - you have a severe chemistry issue, or, less likely, you have a bad cell.

Take care.

Re: IC60 Cell Light Off

Nope. Installation can be vertical, horizontal, angled, etc.

If you only get 4 ppm over a 12 hour period, then 4 ppm is being consumed by organics. Or your pool size is wrong. Or the SWCG or pump is set to 50% on time.

Take care.

Re: IC60 Cell Light Off

Thanks Marty!!! I'm certain on the 15,000 gallon size and the SWG is definitely set to 100% with the pump running 24/7. I've already put up signs about the pool being closed tonight from 11PM until 7AM. I'll run the OCLT tonight and report the results in the morning.

Re: IC60 Cell Light Off

"I'm running my IC60 at 100% but two mornings in a row now I found the CELL light off."

When does it come back on?

That's when my CELL light goes off and on.

I didn't know that!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Philo!!!!!!

edjanowsky - next time you see the light out, wait 1m10s and if it hasn't come back on yet, something is wrong since that is the max it should ever be off when set to 100%.

So according to mknauss, your FC loss from morning test to now was 7.5 FC (since SWG added 8FC) So yeah, either your salt level or SWG or water is an issue...not sure what to advice, will let others chime in - this isn't an emergency though, since you're going to try an OCLT, (remember SWG off) and see what happens.
