You can treat the black algae with water in the pool. Brush off the heads, vacuum the heads after they have settled on the floor of the pool. Treat the black algae that is left behind with a granular chlorine directly on top of the remaining algae spot. Clean the filter so to remove the black algae that was vacuumed up. Bleaching of color may occur if the plaster has a color other than white from the granular chlorine. Any of the heads that get brushed off and not removed will start growing in their current spots so you must be diligent in their removal.
