My pool requires addition of water almost every other day. I have a cheap hose timer made by Green Thumb, but it frequently doesn't shut off as set on the timer. This has twice caused my pool to overflow. I am wondering if there is a better controller/timer out there that people have had good luck with.

Not an answer to your question but-
Where does the water go?
Evaporation, splashout?
Seems like a lot of water for those two cases.
Have you ruled out a leak?

I’m pretty sure it’s not a leak because the water level doesn’t go down at all on weekends when it’s covered 24 hours a day. On weekdays the pool temperature is 95 degrees for 8 hours and we have a dehumidifier that maintains the relative humidity at 52%. Actually, I only have to add water for about 20 minutes in the morning every other day which is about how long some people use our showers. In Alaska, there are lots of people who live off the grid. There are lots of laundromats that have showers. I couldn’t live that way but lots of people do. That said, my water bill isn’t all that bad.
