i had mine done and they put a thin mix around the inside to smooth it out but it looks like alot of little cracks.. not sure if is normal or just a bad job .does anyone know if will chip away or is ok to leave like that........ i was wanting to stain but not sure if cracks will show .anyone know if will work or should i paint. please any answers will help i feel lost . not much on this to find .and if not done right any solutions will help...

It sounds like they used a slurry of cement paste around the inside, I presume it was pretty rough after they pulled the forms? I don't think it will hold very well if it is already cracking.

Taking a stab without pictures, I would say an aggressive pressure washing would likely remove the cracking material. Find some mortar that is compatible with stain and can be applied to a feathered edge. I've used a material called Patchcrete with good success. Make sure it is mixed and applied per its instructions. Use that to smooth the face of the coping, then stain everything.
