Backwashing filter every 30-60 mins

Could air somehow be getting trapped in the top of my sand filter? My filter is under my deck below the water line. As I was just under my deck inspecting everything I just realized I did not install any valves on the skimmer or return. So doing any repairs of my pump or sand filter are not an option without draining the pool ? Perks of being my first pool ?

You can add those in, and prob should ;)
Is your sand filter a side entry?

test kit is ordered and pressure gauge has been replaced. Running 10 psi clean. Still clogging up about every 1-2 hours. Only was able to run the filter for about 4 hours yesterday due to not being able to babysit the filter all day. I have added 1.5 gallon of 6% until test kit arrives. I will add another gallon today on my lunch break.

The gauge was in my garage all winter, but is reading around 2-3 psi when the pump is off. As the pressure goes up on the gauge the flow of water out of the jet is less noticeable. I just assumed it was working correctly. Maybe I need to grab a gauge when I order the test kit.
Yes, you do. When a gauge dies, it's not just a simple matter of if shifting 3 psi or whatever. There's no telling how far off it is at what pressure or if it's consistent or is it exponential.

If you're ordering a tf100, spring for the XL option now. You'll need the extra chlorine tests

Tf-100 wasn’t going to be in till end of next week so I grabbed a k-2006 off Amazon. Had some gift cards and it will be here tomorrow.

Ok one more dumb question and I swear I’ll leave everyone alone. The sand I installed in my filter is a 20/40 mix. The specs on the sand are .42-.89mm in size. My sand filter spec is .45-.55. Is this an issue you think? I attached a picture of the pump and sand filter for reference.

No dumb questions... and I think you'll find most won't encourage stopping questions ;)

I believe Pool Filter Sand should be #20 silica. Was it specific Pool Filter Sand?

Just a little of both. Didn’t know if that why it’s getting gummed up so quick. I put a woman’s knee high in the skimmer and it was full of Crud within minutes. I’m thinking the pool is just full of junk and that’s why its clogging up the filter so quick. It’s been running for almost an hour and I have cleaned the skimmer out 3 times. ?

Sounds about right!

Sorry it was actually 2 bags of Tech-Mix sand and one bag of the all star. I have a little of both left over in my bucket and they look identical besides the color.
This member had issues with it blowing through the filter, not exactly your issue.

Yes I haven’t seem much sand settling in my pool, but on the other hand I can’t really see the bottom. ? I feel like if it was a sand issue I would have already figured that out. If anyone else had input on a 20/40 mix instead of #20 feel free.

20-40 sand is a mix of sand sized from 20 to 40 mesh. 40 mesh is smaller than 20 mesh. Sand filters take 20 mesh. So if there is 40 mesh sand I am pretty sure that would plug the laterals.
I am going to ask @JamesW to help out.
