Im just starting the process with a new pool build. My first one was completed march (really around may) of 2012. I told myself I would never build another pool and that I would definitely buy a house with a pool. Of course only 5 years later we moved to a new "dreamhouse" without a pool. Our first pool build cost around 65K with a covered patio, 3x3 leuders pavers etc. It was an awesome pool.
Here is the link to my original build
Austin Texas Pool Build
My original builder apparently went bankrupt and left a lot of people hanging, but we had a decent experience and the pool was troublefree the whole time we owned it.
We are interviewing builders again and pretty much want almost the same pool (so the design is easier?). Unfortunately the market has somewhat changed and the first builder I talked to said a basic pool starts at 80K on flat ground. We are on a slope so it could be 150K (which i think is ridiculous)
Just to give you an idea, here is an aerial of the space:
Here is a topo map. As a reference the line coming off the back of the house is about 20 ft
Typical costs to cut through the solid limestone are about 1K/day. it takes about 7-10 days to dig the hole for a pool. After that, it should have similar cost to a regular pool except that the backside needs to be reinforced.
I would be interested in hearing costs from people on how much extra the backside reinforcement should cost assuming it is about 6 ft of water depth likely completely exposed.
