Hello all,

I’ve been trying my best to find a solution to this problem for weeks with no success. I’ve watched countless videos, read pages of forums and spoken with a Hayward specialist for days but am getting nowhere.

I have a new AQRS325 with the AQRS3OMNIKIT controlling my swg, heater and lights. I did have a single speed pump wired through HVR1, but was given an older VSP by a neighbor who only used it a year and stored it in his garage. I changed pumps wiring it directly to the breaker and used the pumps controller to set my schedule. The pump is a Hayward Maxflo SP23115VSP and was manufactured in 2017.

I’m attempting to control this pump with the Omni without any luck. I cannot get the pump’s HUA to be recognized by the Omni as nothing shows when going into diagnostics or when editing the current configuration in the wizard, changing the pump type to VSP and trying to find the HUA. As for wiring, I am disconnecting the pumps display panel from the RS485 but using the 4-pin connector. Wires are A to 2, B to 3 and Com to 4 and connected to the Omni’s Comms Bus. Pics were sent to the Hayward tech and they said everything looked good.

The dip switches were originally set with 1 and 2 on, which the tech found odd, but this works fine for the display in standalone mode. Turning off #2 causes a connection error on the display. As instructed in the manuals and tutorials, all dip switches were set to off. I’ve seen and followed the bulletin advising to turn the power to the pump off and wait a minimum of 15 mins to allow the pump to reset. I waited a hour once but seems to work.

Hayward is saying that the age of my pump’s display is too old and I need a new one so that I can scroll in the diagnostics menu and obtain an HUA. My argument here is that the display will be disconnected and wires replaced with the wires going to the Omni thus eliminating the display from the setup . So how is updating the display that is just going to be disconnected going to aid in an HUA being recognized by the Omni?

If anyone has any insight as to how to possibly resolve this I’d be very grateful.

Thanks in advance.

I can’t even find the correct manual for this pump. It’s showing me the newer gen with the same display as the Tristar. I did find this and it doesn’t say anything about being compatible with AQR s3 Omni. But that is a newer gen pump. Maybe try a firmware update?

I could never find the exact manual for this pump either. The display does have a Tristar VS sticker on the back. I sent this exact document to Hayward to point out the bold statement at the top of the page showing that the display is to be removed and that upgrading the display would be pointless.

Your pump was made 2017? I think the pump is just not compatible. I talked with my Hayward rep and he said the only way to upgrade pump firmware is to get a new board….

According to the tech, based on my serial number it was manufactured in 2017.

So are you saying I would upgrade the board on the pump and not the display? Wonder if it would be possible to get a board off of a bad pump and what particular models would work.

That is basically all I have ever been wanting to hear is that this pump would not work with the Omni automation. When the tech says they all will and tries to provide possible but inaccurate solutions, I ended up trying to find out how.

I appreciate the help. I’ll be content to just leave it in standalone and running a schedule.

Thanks again.
