Another Pool Build in Cypress, TX

That install bid is over the top. At least it seems to me. I think your PB doesn't want to mess with it. So, price it too high and the customer won't want it.

To trim the steps, you could use fewer pieces. I'm planning to use 2 pieces per step. It depends on the width of your steps. But there are lots of photos on the Internet showing all sorts of combinations and arrangements of step tiles for all widths of steps.

Let me know if you have any questions. Suz.

Yes, it is expensive. I never splurge on luxuries. But with this project, I have! And I'll say this, I regret not letting loose of some money during my younger adult years.

This isn't a momentary pleasure like flying first class or staying in a great hotel. EVERY time I look out my windows, I smile! And every time I swim in it, I will touch those gorgeous pieces and smile. A small expense for a guaranteed smile many times a day!

I hope you guys will enjoy it! I think you will. Take care! Suz.

Talked to PB. Looks like the cost to install the tile is being revised. Will see once he gets back. If it is too expensive, I will find out if I can get it installed myself. If they don't allow it, maybe put in a few 'diamond' shaped glass ones 1' apart on the steps and baja :)

We have new neighbors! Very loud, singing neighbors. They are the Frog family! I've read of others with frogs in their rain-filled pools. I was feeling a little hurt that no frogs thought our pool would make a nice home.

They moved in sometime yesterday and began their chorus at dusk. They sang their sweet songs to each other at least til midnight. My very own sound machine - for free.

I saw two swimming laps this morning. (we have a nice swim lane - in frog terms).

Can frogs hop up steps? Remember I have those nice 5.5" high steps instead of the standard 9-12" steps. Do we need to devise dome way for them to get out? I'm not sure our home owner's insurance covers death of frogs on our property.

Will they drown? They're bound to become exhausted from their swim workout. I'd feel badly if I saw them floating unnaturally. And no, I don't care for frog legs.

Thanks. Suz.

We have a ramp in our pool just in case the cats fall in. I bet it works for frogs also because since we put it in we have not found a dead from.

Google pet ramp and frog log. There are several different ways to help them out.

In our old AGP, we had frogs go in and out daily - I never saw a dead one. I am not sure why - but my pool that is being built, is FULL of dead frogs. Gross dead frogs. I don't know why they are dying, if it is the gunite - chemicals in it, or if they jump in and it is too far and it kills them or if they can't get out (which is difficult to believe). But mine are all dead. This doesn't stop new ones - every night they bring their songs . . .

The frogs can crawl up the vertical sides if the have a mind to.
@Sunbaby Not sure what your die off is about, probably chem related.

We had so many before plaster that we had to put a bounty on them for the kids to collect them. It became deafening.
We still get some now we are full, but not the buckets full we used to.

If I don't get my levels up early in the season, I start finding posters around the neighborhood "Party @ Kim's, Frogs Only!" If I don't get them all out before I start adding bleach, they'll die. I had a couple jump in while I was slamming (didn't see them jump in) and found them floating the next morning.
We also had one summer, chipmunks that thought they were lemmings (I know, it's only a misconception about the mass suicides lol)! We would be sitting by the pool, you would hear a faint splash, and a new chipmunk was in the pool. If you don't catch them quick enough, they drown.

I can't stand it! I don't want any animal to die - well, snakes and spiders - but nothing else! Our squirrels used our AGP as a water fountain. I was always scared it would hurt them - but they seemed fine - they would run along the edge and lean in and drink. :) We feed the squirrels and birds - love wildlife! Actually - we never had anything die in our AGP in the 3 years we had it. But I am making up for it now - I am not exaggerating - there are probably well over 100 dead frogs in the pool. So gross. And my dog fell into that yucky water! Can't wait for them to clean it out.

These are our first frogs, so Kimdurg is probably right. Frog party invitations have most likely been sent around the neighborhood. Best that we make some sort of ramp for the tenors and sopranos. It would be hard to look out and see a bunch of floaters in the pool.

Poor chipmunks! Who knew they couldn't swim!

If only I had some young kids around, I'd put a bounty out, also.

And Wendy, what can I say? It sounds awful - really gross! You need plaster soon!

Take care! Suz.

Just happened to see this today - they're at Amazon as well - search for:
- Critter Skimmer 9-Inch Round Pool Skimmer Cover, White
- Escape Ramp - Gives Animals a Chance to Escape on Their Own - By Frog Log

the Escape Ramp is pretty cute - not sure one would be enough. I don't own any (or sell them) so not sure how they hold up... but it's a thought if there are more critters in your area.

Thanks Doh! Those look great!

I just found this on YouTube: you tube diy doggie ramp for a pool - Yahoo Search Results

It's overkill for frogs, but we have an outdoor kitty who's getting older, and I worry about him falling in. I read that if an animal can swim but can't get out of the pool, they can drown from exhaustion. That's what worries me. Of course, the homemade one doesn't quite complement the look of our glass tile! LOL!!! But keeping our cats alive trumps looks! Thanks for the info!! Suz.

Doh, I just noticed, that was your first post!!! And what do you do on your first post? You offer help! How cool is that?!!! Welcome to TFP!

I'm so glad you came! Tell us about yourself! Do you have a pool, researching pools, planning a pool, or building a pool? Or are you just a great person dropping in to offer help? Thanks again for the critter ramp info! Suz.
