Another newbie, near west burbs of Chicago

Grew up in the city, but moved west. I no longer pay $100's of dollars for a city sticker, so I can now afford a pool...and food!
Found this site, and am happy. I'm tired of the pool store telling me "just dump in more chlorine" I found out a couple of years ago how important alkalinity is and that it ISN'T PH...But of course the stores don't make money if they don't sell chemical.
Looking forward to learning a little and having a better pool.
