Just found this site/ forum and had to join.
I built an in-ground pool 16x32 with the help of friend 35+ years ago in Chicago land, which was filled in by new owners when we sold the house. Was chlorine and a PIA to keep right for the 5+ months.
Lo and behold, after moving to NC and downsizing houses two years ago we moved to a house with a 20 x 40' in ground, vinyl liner, salt pool with child safety fence that the kids and grandkids use and abuse.
In the 35 years, the filter system is the same and I've come to truly enjoy the salt aspect as virtualy maintenance free compared to what I remembered from a chlorine pool.
This year when cover came off, the pool was covered with a nice layer of algae on the bottom, and due to a surgery I couldn't open and clean it so "call the guy" for a maintenance plan - ouch..... Also ants clew the heat pumps control board so double ouch
Being retired gives me plenty of time from no on this year to learn more about the heat pump, salt system as parts cen be sourced but I'll pay myself to afford other toys.
