Another New Pool - N.Houston

Two questions.

a) If it rains tomorrow between plaster today and acid wash Monday will the acid wash cleanse any stain from settled rain?

b) The product registration the Pebble Tech applicator left says that if I have whole house water softener, to not use that water for initial fill. I do have a whole home softener that my hose bibs are connected too. The Texas water is very hard and softener is required to not destroy appliances and fixtures. Any suggestions on this??

GD,

A few days of hard water is not long enough to do damage to your house fittings but if you want to be extra safe bypass the softener (there are always valves on the softener to do this) at night and fill at night only. This will minimize the amount of water that flows through the house and into the fixtures inside. But it will extend the time to fill.

I hope this helps.

He cannot ONLY fill at night..............remember this is brand new plaster. If he stops the fill a ring could form that is close to impossible to remove :( Once you start filling you keep on filling.

OK good point and thanks for the correction. I would just bypass the softener then.

Thanks I know I can’t stop. Did I understand the comment that if I use my softener bypass valve while filling that the flow to the hose bibs will be restricted and take even longer to fill?

Has anyone ever run 2nd water fill hose from neighbors with permission of course?

Do you have another water outlet on your house?

Your piping for your water hoses is smaller but comes from a main line. If you use two hoses from two separate outlets you are getting more water than one. It's not just one cut in half *Typically*.

That would be a very kind neighbor. Just tell them you'll pay their significant increase in water bill?

The reason it would have taken longer is that I suggested you do it at night only. Fortunately, Kim corrected my suggestion because "night only" would take longer to fill which is needed to protect your new plaster (thanks again Kim!) That is way more critical than a couple of days exposure of your home fittings to unsoftened water. If you bypass your softener you will actually increase flow to the pool since you don't have the pressure drop from the resin bed. Even better is to put multiple hoses in. And let them run 24 hrs per day until you have the pool level needed.

I hope this helps.

Turn the bypass on your water softener for the fill.
Just chiming in to say that just last week I had to have a plumber bypass the water softener for my hose bibs. I was kind of shocked that my softener people installed the softener so that even the hose bibs get soft water! I didn't want softened water going into the pool (even though it matters less for vinyl, I still didn't want the mileage on the softener).

Thanks all for the input. I knew the 24-48hrs for the pool fill is negligible without soft water for indoor applicances and such. More about laundry and showers for two days without nice soft water.

Water is flowing. Dual hoses from 1p CT using two bibs on each side of my house. Gym socks wrapped and zip tied.

If I see the backyard neighbor that backs up to us, and he's amenable to my paying his March water bill, I can possibly speed this up.

Only my fellow TFPers know how freaking excited we are.

Amidst the plaster last week and start-up this Weds after fill, the landscapers finished the Belgard paver pathway around side to pool deck, and started restoring the irrigation lines and pulling the little bit of old sod that hadn't already been destroyed. This week is also irrigation, landscape, sod.

Mean while in the pavilion, the vent for the pizza oven was installed today and tomorrow we meet with the builder and mason to plan on how the oven will be finished out.

I will try to post more pics soon. Hard to post since my phone takes file sizes to large for direct upload requiring me to resize.

OH Happy Day!!!! At long last YOUR pool is getting wet!!!!

So I have something for you to do for me please. When your pool is filled AND balanced please take a pic looking down at the steps. We have a thread about plaster colors. I would LOVE to add yours to it! Please post your brand, color, add ons/in, etc. THANKS! Pool Finish and Color Viewing Room...TFP Member Sound Off

Now on to YOUR pool. Please know you may see a little green in your water at the beginning. This is VERY normal!! It may take a little while for your plaster to find it's final color. It needs to cure and the dust cleared as well as the water balanced.

Will do Kim on posting final color pics. I'm hoping to be able to take the same photo in similar time of day lighting, every other day so I can monitor the color change over the first few weeks.

Aware of the green/cloudy hue we'll have at first, thanks to my TFP knowledge.
