I've read a few posts and "think" I know what to do, but really would like some confirmation.

Last week we had a bit of green "dust" that I scrubbed with brush and then used vacuum. We left town for 5 days and came home to a green pool.

All chemicals look great.
So far, I've added 6 gallons of chlorine, ran the pump not stop, and left robo vacuum in pool continuously vacuuming. It's still not having an impact.

Current Chemicals;
FC: 5.1
pH: 7.8
total Alkalinity: 76
CYA: 78
Calcium: 53
Salt: 3250 (I added another bag after this reading).

I think I need SLAM. Using the chart (28,000 gallon pool), I entered the information using Pool Math app and it came back with 12 gallons. SLAM says to double it so do I really need to add 24 gallons of chlorine?

Is there anything I'm missing or anything else I need to do?

The first thing is to stop testing at the pool store and get a recommended test kit such as a Taylor 2006C, TF100 or TFPro. You'll need to order whichever you get and the TFPro is recommended. Get the salt kit with it since you have a SWG. In the meantime, Get to Your SLAM! You don't need to put in 28 gallons, but rather 28 ppm of liquid chlorine. Pool Math will tell you how many gallons that will be. You are right on the cusp of having too high a CYA as 70 and above generally means you need to lower it but I would slam even though you will use extra chlorine. Turn your SWG off during the SLAM and backwash the filter when the gauge rises 25% over it's low, clean filter pressure. This might happen a lot in the beginning.

I have the Taylor Test kit. I use the pool store to confirm my tests. I used pool math and 31ppm for the calculations and it said 12 gallons and to double it.

My pool builder said I wouldn’t need to backwash so I’ve never done that. I’ll have to figure that out.

What type of filter do you have? If it's sand then you will be backwashing, though if there is refuse on the bottom of the pool to vacuum up during the SLAM then you want to vacuum to waste. If you have cartridges then they will need to come out to be cleaned when the pressure rises.

Have a pentair filter. I’m trying to figure out how to backwash as I don’t see that as an option

I added 3 gallons of chlorine last night after initial test. Chlorine from Taylor test kit is now 16.5. Based in this it says add 6 gallons.

You need to fill out your signature so we know what equipment you have, etc. See Create Your Signature - Further Reading

If you are not sure what you have, take several pictures, including labels, and post them here so we can assist.
I just updated it. Thank you.

28,000 gallon In Ground Vinyl Pool
Pentair Intellichlor SWG Model IC40
Pentair Intelliflo VSF variable speed and flow pump
Pentair Filter Model CCP420

Clean your cartridges. Note clean pressure. When clean pressure rises 25%, then clean the cartridges again. Say clean pressure is 20, clean when you hit 25.
You may be cleaning cartridges often.

Would this be 10%? And thank you. If this is 10%, I was calculating at 6%
Yes 10%

Add your test kit to your signature - it really is part of your equipment.

Post a full set of current test results from your TF100 test kit.
Don't bother posting pool store results - they are worthless. Trust your TF100 test results.

Post pictures of your equipment pad from a few different angles so we can see what you have.
