I'm planning a liner replacement project, and we anticipate it will take a day or two or maybe longer to refill the pool from our hose. Storing or delivering water is not a common practice in our area. So I'm wondering if it would be smart to try to pass the hose water over some CYA as it entered the pool, and if there is a good way to do this so that the CYA doesn't escape out into the pool and sit on the new liner, perhaps a skimmer sock mounted above the skimmer basket somehow? Would it make sense to use some di-chlor? Thanks! Dangerous

That is not needed on Day 1. Per the NPC startup guideline, chlorine should not be added until Day 3 and then start to add CYA on Day 4.

Its a liner pool.

Where is your water coming from?

If it is a municipal water supply the water will have 1-2ppm of chlorine.

Just be ready to get the stabilizer in socks in the water when you get the pump running and have liquid chlorine on hand to add.

If you want to get CYA into the water quickly then get 2 gallons of liquid stabilizer and pour it in when the pool is about half filled. Each gallon will give you 15ppm of CYA.

The water is from the municipal supply, but in the sun that 1-2ppm will be gone pretty quickly before the pool is full enough to run the SWG. I was hoping not to spend 100 bucks on liquid CYA since we'll be closing the pool probably a month after. One year I opened the pool to cool whether and it took about a week for the CYA to dissolve. I ended up using 20+ jugs of liquid chlorine, 12%. I had a deal at the time to buy them for under $5, but it was annoying to load them, unload them, store them, lug them around, and haul empties to the dump. I suppose the liquid stabilizer would work. A little pricey though, is it worth it vs using 2 pucks to hold me while the CYA melts in?

The CYA in the pucks would be inefficient for what you're trying to accomplish so it's either the 2 jugs liquid CYA or leave it alone, add chlorine and once filled go for the sock method CYA.
