About to fill pool

Hello everybody. 16x32 Intex Ultra pool here with the Intex Sand/SWG pump/filter. Water is being delivered on Tuesday. I’ve added a couple of inches of water already to work out the wrinkles.

Just want to confirm that for now the only thing I should buy is CYA and about 8-9 bags of 40lb salt and maybe some bleach.
How much bleach should I add at the beginning? I think the pool is around 13-14,000 gallons.
Probably going to add the salt as they are filling the pool and then of course run the pump.

I’ll worry about PH and adding Borate later. Test kits are on the way.

Thanks for any help you can provide! Kids are anxious. Took me way longer to get the ground level than I thought. But it is level!

I haven’t bought any of it yet. Headed to the hardware store for salt and CYA tomorrow. I know about the additive issue with bleach. Just making sure these are the only three things I need now. I’ve done the pool school and read the sticky.

Just wondering how much bleach to start with before adding salt.

Might as well grab some muriatic acid while you're at it. You'll use it for the pH I'm sure.

On day one of fill with water circulating, get the stabilizer soaking (sock method) for an initial CYA goal of 60 (salt pool). You can add more later as needed. Also on day one, add about 3 ppm of liquid chlorine. If the pH is over 7.8, lower it a little to 7.8 or below.

Day two and beyond, watch the FC and keep it balanced as noted on the FC/CYA Levels. That's your tool to avoid algae.

Hope that helps.

Does that mean ppm?
Yes.
It says minimum is 3 and target range is 5-7
It is assuming your daily loss will fit the 2-4 ppm per day that's average. Your mission is to ensure you cover the expected daily loss at that point in the season. For example, if you're losing 4.5 ppm a day in July, target is 3 (min) plus 4.5. I always recommend a little extra for some wiggle room. Big storms happen, extra high UV loss days happen, impromptu afternoon get togethers happen........ it nice to have some safety net.

This is super helpful. Thank y’all so much.

Quick question. When they come with the big tanker and hose can i just put the bags of salt on the bottom of the pool, cut them open and let them aim the hose at the salt? Seems like that would help get the salt mixed in pretty quickly. It’s basically a fire hose and lots of pressure.

You could but there's really no need. I added 760 lbs at startup and it was gone in an hour or two. I brushed it every 30 mins for 2 mins. I didn't even have to do THAT, I just wanted to feel useful.

Make sure you aim low. Above ground pools in particular have gallon measurements to full, and water level is 6 inches below that. Plus the fill water may have a little salt.
