Keep pump running?

Should you leave your pump running 24/7 or not. I have heard both to keep it running and some keep it on a timer?

For most residential pools less than 8 hours is sufficient. It really depends on you pump, filter and personality of pool.

Actually for most residential pools, only 4 hours is necessary.

Interesting reading, with that, is there a special timer for outdoors that can be used? Thanks for all the help.

Intermatic makes several outdoor timers.

They also make several two speed timers for two speed pumps.

My pool heater, a Jandy Lite 2, has a simple on and off timer. But if you have a SWG or solar panels then you may want it to run more.
