My pool is 6 years old and water looks great. On the steps I see brown staining. I rubbed a tab and it’s now very white maybe to white. Hope I didn’t rub off a surface coating or something.

I also have blue staining on the steps and I’m not sure if it’s staining or maybe a blue tint was put into the plaster and it’s coming off. I ordered a stain ID kit from Jack Magic. I did have a Pool RX for the last 2 years so maybe copper or like I said maybe it’s a blue tint wearing out. Any ideas?

Probably copper and silver.

PoolRx+ contains a proprietary blend of minerals that continuously and effectively eliminate algae for up to 6 months. These minerals immediately dissolve out of the cylinder and form a stable residual throughout the whole body of water. During the pool’s filtration process the minerals are rejuvenated every time they return and pass through the cylinder.

Active Ingredients:
Copper Sulphate Pentahydrate: 86.85%
Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate: 1.51%
Silver Nitrate: 0.40%
Other Ingredients: 11.24%

Yes, this is what I was thinking.

I communicated with a pool professional and he said the blue plaster was tinted and this is mottling. Eventually it will get resurfaced so I’ll live with it for now. Thx

Try putting vitamin C on a spot to see if anything happens.
I was able to remove the brown stain on the small step that was from tabs from the dispenser (not in pic) with vitamin c but it didn’t help the stains in the picture. I have a person coming tomorrow to test it. He thinks it’s copper but we will see tomorrow. He is suggesting an acid wash. I think I might try Jack Magic first. Thx
