We're planning on getting some concrete work done so it is a good time to replace the 3-way valves. Primary reason for replacement is that they're too close together to automate.
Here are the options:
1) Leave them alone
2) Open up the concrete and modify the plumbing to put in new valves in same location, but far enough apart that servos can be installed.
3) Open up concrete back toward the pump and move valves closer to the pump.
As you've probably guessed, I'd like to do #3. But here are the details and issues.
We're planning on putting an enclosure around the pool equipment. Ideally I could mount the plumbing on the inside wall. But I see two potential problems. The first is trying to bring 6 pipes back to the slab, the second is that it could lead to the valves being installed above the pump, which means I would need to raise the pump??? and that could lead to the pump being too far above the pool level for self-priming.

Additionally I'm considering adding valves to do the following:
1) Bypass the salt cell
2) Future addition of solar heater

Hopefully the pictures help, let me know if I can provide any additional information.

22,

I am not a fan of bringing any plumbing through the concrete. I suggest that you dig a trench where the plumbing comes up and just fill it with gravel.

I see nothing wrong with your plan to reconfigure your equipment pad.

I like the idea of getting the two valves out of the dirt.

Thanks,

Jim R.
