2018: Fiberglass install uxbridge ointario

Put a 3way valve between pump & filter so you can lower pool or pump nasty stuff out to waste.

So I am trying to keep this as basic as possible but what exactly do you mean pump nasty stuff out?

Looks good to me. The valve to pump to waste instead of to filter might come in handy if you ever have something nasty happen in your pool like a dead something, mud event, etc.but it is not necessary.

It's a smart idea for sure and I and not discounting it. I just wanted to use the KISS method on everything. I don't plan on ever using pool pump to lower level or clean pool. I have other pumps to remove water and other ways to clean. The beauty is, I can add as I go where needed.

Well I can’t write a thesis on it, but it’s a short run with the highest pressure in the system. The fitting welds are fixed & offer no play.

I’m not ringing the alarm, I just saying how I do it.

( everything I do is installed for my own servicing pleasure & to keep everybody running as well as possible.... and oh yeah keep them quiet too..)

Whats a thesis? Lol jk

I figured as much. Looked up the data long ago. Like any material it will elongate as temperature increases. I kinda assumed more movement on the output side of the heater.

Why, from your experience does it expand so much from pump to filter? Rigid stretches too, just not as much.

Sorry I missed your question.. because their is no congestion/back pressure from the filter tank. I

Get rid of the unlike metals drain contraption. & go pvc.. the galvanized pipe is going to rust to an unserviceable degree and may also stain the pool & even faster when touching the brass.

how will it stain the pool? Pvc fittings wont fit. the hole is in a niche. don't have enough space to turn the pvc fitting plus it would be too high.

Brass does not react with zinc. You are thinking about copper. When connecting copper pipes to zinc, you use a brass valve or brass nipple. I owned a house built in 54 with all galvanized water lines and I did exactly that. use brass between the copper and galvanized. No corrosion.

Chris, I don’t recall whether or not you’re going swg, but even if you aren’t, salt will build up over the years. Those fittings will be subject to galvanic corrosion. The zinc is least noble so it will take the hit, but the brass may go fast too. I had a marine brass fitting connector to my system on an outlet rigged to get flow into my air warmer. It had corroded in place completely and failed in less than six months. I replumbed it with pvc this year.

When either zinc or brass corrode, it will become a trace substance in your water. In the case of the brass you may end up with enough copper over time to stain. It only takes .3 ppm. I’m a fan of poolguy’s advice to replumb it now with pvc. There are conversion connections avail to go from pvc thread to hose attachment thread for winter draining.

I’d rather see you do that than battle stains in the future, which are a pita with any surface but especially fiberglass!

Besides, you needed another project to distract you from the weather ;)
