1st time pool guy

I haven't added the muriatic acid yet, but I keep putting bleach in as recommended by pool math, but never gets to target of 5-6 by the next time I test. Should I double amount, or add more CYA? Does the pH and TA affect FC levels? Help as I feel I can't even get FC up to right level

Also, I read that aeration can increase pH and that jet should be pointed away from skimmer and downward for better mixing. Mine was pointed upward and making a lot of waves. I positioned it 45 degrees down and away from skimmer. Now the skimmer is making a weird sound, and I get little "tornados" in the water by the return jet. Any suggestions? Should I look into a better jet return?

Doing a OCLT tonight. Last test was FC = 5ppm. I did add muriatic acid to what pool math said would be 7.5 pH several hours ago with pump running, but pH and TA have stayed the same: 7.8 and 100.
Will see what FC is tomorrow morning

Passed the OCLT. I added little over 2 cups muriatic acid per pool math, and my pH went up a little and TA didn't change. Why is that??? i used 31.45%

Adding your pool volume to your signature is really helpful. I calculate it as 17000 gallons.

16 oz of MA would lower your pH by just 0.3. I suspect you were not well mixed or had some testing variation. If still pH of 8, lower it to 7.4 and see if what the result is after the pump runs for 30 minutes or so.

I calculated with average depth of 4 ft to be around 21k gallons, so been using 20k as a round number. I am trying to use pool math to upload my log, but it asks me where to send info, and I don't know what to put to get it here (I am not tech savvy at all)

I will add the volume to your signature. I get 17000 gallons with 27' round pool at 4 foot depth.
Uploading from Poolmath is if you wish to safe a file of your data. Not necessary.

When using Pi X R2 X depth X 7.5 I get little over 17000. Math is coming back to me...just lazy and googled pool volume calculators. So using muriatic acid for 20K gollons should make more of a change if volume is less, and mine didn't put a dent in it. Maybe I should brush more after adding?

Are you using fresh MA. Had a customer complain the PH wasn't dropping after a dose of it. Handed them a new jug to try again. Obviously what they had tried before wasn't strong anymore because the new stuff took them by surprise when the got a wiff and to no surprise the Ph dropped.

so after adding little over 3 cups muriatic acid (for pH 7.5) and the previous 2 cups yesterday that didn't do anything, my pH is 7.6 and TA 90. Not as big a drop as pool math calculated, but going in right direction. Added 3/4 gallon bleach and FC is 6 and CC is 0. CYA still 40

#s look nice. since u passed the oclt you just need to maintain the fc level for your cya which is 5-7. I would aim for 7. Add enough lc to get to 7 now or in the morning & retest tomorrow afternoon/evening to see approx how much you pool “eats” daily . You never wanna let it go to the minimum. As the sun/weather gets hotter you may wanna add enough cya to get to 50 as you start noticing the fc drop increasing. If you displace a Fair amount of water (alot of rain that requires u drain etc.) you’ll need to retest that cya to make sure its in line. The ph & ta looks ok - you’ll also have to just see if ph rises too much@ 90 ta - if so lower Ta by dropping ph to 7.1 or 7.2 & aerating back to 7.6. You just have to find the perfect ta for your pool. The most important thing is don’t let fc ever drop below the min for your cya. So that means you must feed it chlorine Everyday whether you play with it or not lol. I print the chart out & taped it to the inside of my test kit
