pool guy #2 came by today with some numbers. hes at around $35k total. his contract was pretty vague as to what charges were associated to each part of the job, for example 7' spa addition with 8 jets, plumbing, electrical, etc. I asked him if he could write it up in line items so I could see what the charges were and for what specifically for equipment, pipe sizes and # of runs, etc. so I could have a clear understanding of what the finished product will be before signing any contracts.
he didn't seem to want me to supply my own equipment and we talked about it. he upcharges for installation cost and transport. i'm still working on that one.
he said he has never run any pipe over 2 1/2" but could do whatever I wanted. I think he thought I was crazy asking for 3" for the spa. also doesn't seem to care for the spot I want to place equipment. (up to 75' from pool/spa)
I like this guy and he has definitely put some time in researching with the building dept. and making some drawings to show. he does come recommended and all so I hope we can sort things out. he deserves the job but I do have a back up guy if needed who has no problem allowing me to do any part of the work I can to cut costs and not only offered me to buy equipment but match it or beat it if he could get it cheaper. for his cost.
bit of a dilemma at the moment but hope it all works out on its own. no rush. just have to see how it goes...
