Pump Pressure - When to backwash

My 1st post, not sure about layout....

I've just refurbed my pool (1st pool I've owned) The pump pressure stays at 18psi after backwashing. What is (are) normal pressures? At What pressure do you backwash?

It depends on how your water flow is affected by the increased pressure, but typically you have to backwash after an increase of 5-10 psi.

Re: Pump Pressure - When to backwash

My Hayward filter instructions suggest backwashing when pressure increases 6-8 psi over the "clean pressure".

On my setup, I seem to "hang" right at 15psi (right now after new sand and first backwash). I'll usually backwash when it get's to the 20-23 psi range.
