Pool Filter

I opened the pool last weekend but was out of town for a few days.
2nd yr pool owner running into an issue with my filter. I went to turn it off to clean out the pool filter as filter was full. Jets were working fine when I shut it off.
Then I decided to do a backwash but the water wasn't coming back despite the motor running. Motor sounded stressed. Turned it off then switched back to filter.
At this point, motor was trying to take in water as motor was running but the jets had nothing coming out! Any ideas?

When you say "clean out the pool filter," do you mean the pump basket was full of debris or that your filter backpressure was high? Was the pump basket empty of water and attempting to prime itself when you were backwashing or switching back to filter? If you removed the pump basket lid, take it off again and make sure it seals properly.
