1. Cant Shock w/o getting Iron Stains & 2. Sodium Bicarb Making Water Milky

Off the top of your head what typically gets added to a pool to lower the pH and the TA that much?
For one, boatloads of CYA.

And the hose experiment brings up an EXCELLENT point. Do you run other water thingies when filling the pool ? You could be knocking rust out of the house pipes by showering (etc) at the same time, creating a problem when the water was otherwise ok.

On the refill, use as little other water as possible. Get everyone's laundry and dishes done before, and shower everyone up.

Run the hose for a couple minutes to flush it first.

Has the idea of having fill water delivered been exhausted already? I know it it's more $ but if it's better water (less iron) then you could be in your pool relaxing sooner....just a thought and it may not even be an option/better option for you.

So you see you are doing the tests right! You have good water as far as ph and TA. We can work on it once you dump that toxic soup the pool store made for you :(

Iron-VERY interesting about the first water out of the hose. Do something for me. Go to another hose bib and see what THAT water looks like when it first comes out.

How well do you know your neighbors? Can you ask to see THEIR bib water?

What does the inside of the tank part of your toilet look like? Is it discolored?

Do you know which of your hose bibs get the water from the city line first? I have some ideas.

That sound expensive!! I have heard of fire engines coming in and filling the huge inground pools, but I can’t imagine anybody is going to do that for my little bitty 15 foot intex pool. Doesn’t hurt to ask though. Where else would you even have that brought in from besides the fire department?

@Bperry I was thinking the same thing! THEN add the water through a 5 gallon bucket with the ployfill in it for a one, two punch to the iron!
How expensive are those? Seriously between trying to get my mother sorted in her move to a nursing home and the gazillion pool chemicals I have already purchased in the last two months my money is getting very thin. And considering it’s August I’m kind of considering just going ahead and closing it for the year and try back again next year.
Well maybe not 100% there yet, but it has crossed my mind

Gonna be honest here, I’m struggling to visualize how I would put Pollyfill and a water hose threw a bucket, and have them filling up a pool without the hose coming out of the bucket and the Polyfill going everywhere. Or perhaps I’m just not very creative lol

I can’t answer that for sure, considering it takes several hours or more to fill it back up, I’m sure I have done something else water wise in the house.

1. They will absolutely come and put paid for water delivery in your pool
2. For an apples and tangerines comparison: I have iron in my water as well, town closest to me has questionable water, so I had truck deliver it from 30 miles away and it held 6,000 gallons per load (iirc) for $250/load
3. I don't believe fire departments do that anymore but never hurts to ask

From Iron Fill Water Filter - Further Reading

Polyfill_Bucket_Iron_Filter.jpg

This thread describes how a 5 gallon bucket filled with polyfill was rigged to the pool ladder with some string, a couple dozen 1/4” holes drilled into the bucket, and a large hole drilled into the bottom of the bucket to filter a pool that did not have skimmers.

Iron-VERY interesting about the first water out of the hose. Do something for me. Go to another hose bib and see what THAT water looks like when it first comes out. That one seemed fine

What does the inside of the tank part of your toilet look like? Is it discolored? My toilet has some iron colored stains on the bottom around the guts, but not terrible. The other bathroom I can’t really tell because quite honestly there’s a good bit of mildew in it. It’s a spare bathroom that no one ever uses or flushes so the water is kind of stagnant. Note to self go pour some bleach in that toilet tank

Do you know which of your hose bibs get the water from the city line first? I have some ideas. I do not. I would imagine it comes to the front of the house first, but then again my kitchen is on the front of the house and it takes forever for hot water to come through. However both of my hose faucets are about the same distance from the front of the house just ones on the left of the house and ones on the right of the house.

Answers above behind each of your questions

Put plain hose end through hole in bucket/lid (pre made or drilled) then screw sprayer thingy on the hose & set it to on.
Drill holes in bottom of the bucket to let the water out , stuff with polyfill, snap lid onto bucket. Put bucket in secured location (strapped to ladder probably) . Turn on hose.

Does your pool have a skimmer?

That’s actually not as bad as I thought pricewise. So what do I Google? Just water delivery?

OK now I can visualize it. Thank you. The only skimmer you can really use with the Intex pool is the one that kind of hangs over the side, it’s not one that’s like built into the side of the pool. But yes I do have it. I put some poly fill in there shortly after lunch today and as of right now it’s not discolored in the least. However my liner is pretty discolored and gets worse by the day adding liquid chlorine to it daily

Yeah just pool water delivery. They just load it from water treatment facility. Remember my prices here may be wildly different than where you are. Also call about 3 or 4 to find best price because they can all be quite different from my experience.

That’s definitely worth looking into because I end up with an 80 or $90 water bill when I fill it from the hose anyway so this isn’t really much worse

Home Depot bucket with lid and 2 bags of $5 poly fill from Hobby Lobby stuffed in it. Drill more holes out than the one in for the hose. I was going to donate my bucket to the cause but then I realized I could waste the $2.47 lid instead of the $8 bucket and we are thrifty here.
