    Serious clay issue

Hi. I have a very similar issue. I'm not as steep as you but same results..dirt in the pool. Your phrase "insanely heavy rain" is exactly what I've said. Keep your chemistry balanced, as you should do anyway. It just needs time to filter out. I had to vacuum to waste a couple of times when it...

It's Black, Help Me Make It Blue?

If it makes you feel better, I was there two weeks ago. Finally, this morning I felt like I was back to 100% clean. Keep in mind that when vacuuming to waste you are taking chemicals out of the pool. I didn't vacuum to waste until I could see the bottom and got as many leaves out as possible...

Acid Wash to improve look of plaster?

Hi. I don't know about the MA in a filled pool but figured I'd chime in since there have been no replies. When I worked for a pool company we would drain the pool and scrub the walls and floor with a deck brush after we poured the acid (mixed with some water) on the area. Looking back on it we...

Gun Shy - Buying an Gunite SW Pool

Just food for thought. I don't have any decking around 80% of my pool (just grass). I have pavers at the stairs end so it doesn't become a mud pit. We love the look and feel. No issues with grass in the pool etc. Sod is a lot cheaper than concrete. As far as budgeting goes I tell friends to...

Pool builder messed up - need advice on depth

I find that when people talk about depth they are talking about water depth. This will vary a bit given that you have 5 inches or so to play with given the simmer height. So if you measure when the water is just below the top of the skimmer to the bottom of the pool, you'll have a good...

    Pool slope and size

I have a 16x32 vinyl. It's fine for my family of 5 and when company comes over. That being said I'd get the larger pool if you have the room (I didn't want to take up any more space w the way my yard was). I have it gradually go to about 6' (maybe just shy of that). It's not slippery as long...

A LOT of questions for my mess of a pool.

For # 7 my .02 is to buy hairnets off of amazon and use them. You can simply pull the basket out daily and throw out the used hairnet and replace it. about $15 for 100 of them on Amazon. You'll catch some finer stuff from making it to your filter. For an estimate, see my signature for pool...

Tried Super Clarifier for the first time....pool was slightly hazy....results = wow!

3.5 ounces is not going to ruin your filter. IMO, people slam other methods like this because they are accustomed to doing things their way they can't be objective. Now i agree that all one needs is the TFP method but i don't let that impact me in providing an objective answer.

First time pool owner, ?s about startup and chemicals

Hi. For LC I like to buy from Lowe's. I used to buy bleach but in my local stores they have stopped putting the concentration on the bottle (I'm sure lowering the concentration). I was getting ShopRite 8.25% until they eliminated the conc. Lowe's is 10% and $4 per jug ($1 more than I was...

    Solar cover

I see. Ouch, that's a lot of money. When I used a solar cover with my above ground I did find that when the overnight temps stayed above 70 the pool didn't lose that much heat without the solar cover on (especially if it was humid). That might be a compromise worth making.

For the entire swimming season. Once July & August hit the heater barely kicks in.

    Solar cover

The cover won't help keep debris out nearly as much as you think. The covers get dirt & pollen on them in addition to other stuff and when you drag the cover off it just dumps it off the cover into the water. Also when you put the cover on the ground it gets debris on the underside that gets...

    Lots of dirt washed in

Hi. When I had my pool built, it was all dirt around it for the first summer. Two heavy rains had mud splashing into the pool turning it brown in about 5 minutes, so a similar end result. Keep the pump going 24/7. If your pump isn't on, it's not filtering the water. You will need to keep an...

    New to inground pools

Hi. If you have the money at the moment buy a high quality test kit such as the one recommend here: TFTestkits.net You don't need to drain the water...unless your cya (stabilizer) is way too high. Post the results from the strips. It's essential that you are able to test for cya. Many...

Small family owned installer vs. large company installer

Looking great. My .02, 3k for bluestone coping is well worth it. It looks so great imo, and I'd jump at that. Also, I would at least run the gas line for the heater while the yard is dug up. You'll save digging costs and ruining the yard down the road. I'm sure some don't use a heater but...

Best Upgrades for the money....and the worst!

A good idea for a thread. For me the best upgrade for the money was putting in a roman end bench in my deep end. Deep end gets used so much more than it would w/o it and we have a straight view of the length of the pool (to keep an easy eye on the kids). At $2,500 I didn't do it on the stairs...

    Torn liner in new pool

If the leak is without a doubt their fault then I would expect to be reimbursed. I have the same size pool and it's not a minor expense. The salt adds up too so definitely push for it. Sorry this happened but good to see they are replacing it.

    45 X 20 or 45 X 18

I also vote for 20' wide. I'm at 16' wide and I would have liked 20' but I also wanted the deck space it would have eaten up. If you have kids the 20' is nice because when there are a bunch of kids jumping from each side you have a lot of cushion before they come close to one another. And if...

Help! Trying to choose between 2 different pool sanitizers.

jrb, just an fyi, a SWCG for your size pool should run about $1,800 installed (and that's with the pb handsome markup). That's what my local pool store is charging to install the IC 40 from Pentair.

    Pool cover for debris

Good to know BMK; thank you. Meestamahmarc, I don't clean mine (and it's marinated in rotting leaves over a couple of closings). Personally I don't think it's worth the effort, especially if you can store it in a shed or under a deck. I.e., out of your house.

    Pool cover for debris

Hi. I have 2 large oaks behind my pool and the acorns just started to fall with regularity this past week. I'm in rockland county, only 8-10 miles from you. I suggest this net unless someone has a better solution. Just weight it down of course. You'll be able to pull the leaf net off with a...

Auto cover for new pool in Nebraska?

Hi. Just wanted to give you some thoughts on the 4.5' depth so you can make an informed decision and go with what is best for your family. My pool is 42"-6'. I knew I didn't want diving. But I wanted a deep area so the kids could jump in. When they are still kids but in adult sized bodies...

    Help with pool going green

I know this will sound silly but are you running your pump long enough? Maybe the timer was changed or one of the metal trip things loosed a bit and moved shortening the run time? (If you have in Intermatic type timer). Probably not what happened but certainly worth checking. Personally I'd...

Rain getting heavy, pool filling up

Hi. It's likely that the color change was due to mud splashing into the pool. I watched as my pool turned in color from crystal clear in a matter of 5 minutes during a heavy rain. I had all dirt around the pool at the time and the rain made puddles that splashed muddy water into the pool. I...

Why Drain Pool with High CYA?

I'll vouch for that. When I had an above ground pool the weight of the snow on the cover would push the water down causing it to rise against the wall and out the skimmer. Once the snow was melted (water) I'd pump it off or back into the pool to replenish lost water.
