Can I make this swimmable tomorrow?

Socra, You need to get that sock completely submerged. As others have said, let it soak for 10 minutes or so, hang it in front of a return, and SQUEEEEEEEZE. It will be disolved in 20 minutes. Working the sock is what helps it dissolve quickly instead of waiting a day in the skimmer.

Sodium Hypochlorite Solution - 5 Gallon Carboy

Shouldve told her to point on the bottle where it says 99% chlorine 😄 The SDS clearly states 12-15% sodium hypochlorite....that is chlorine Yes, liquid chlorine is ok for vinyl pools.

Phosphates level of 2041 -- Need to treat?

First off, GEAUX TIGERS. I found TFP while researching for my pool build. I'm entering my 5th pool season. Know how many times I've had algae or something blooming...ZERO. My point is I've never tested for phosphates, have no idea what my phosphate level is and.........I don't care. Keep your...

When doing the FC test, how clear should the water in the tube be?

Yep, youre good to go. My test vial has a bit of a grey hue as well. It could use a cleaning :D

When doing the FC test, how clear should the water in the tube be?

It should be clear clear. When that happens, you are done with the test. If you let it sit for a minute or 3 after, it will begin to turn back pink. Do not keep chasing it. You are done the first time.

Only add 17 oz of stabilizer?

Curt, remember Stabilizer =CYA, not chlorine. Yes , CYA/FC relationship is the most important part of pool maintenance...disregarding it will start a swamp for you. Always stay at the top of your target FC + what you burn through in a day. Example, if your pool uses 4 FC a day, add 4 to the top...

Only add 17 oz of stabilizer?

Download Pool Math app. You can set up the specifics of your pool and it will will tell you exactly how much of "what" to get to "where". In your region, you could probably bump up your CYA to get to 50...but most importantly get some chlorine in your pool ASAP. Chlorine needs to be added DAILY...

Only add 17 oz of stabilizer?

Stabilizer is aka CYA. Your FC level is low for your CYA of 40. I would get some chlorine in there soon. Minimum is 3 with a target of 5-7

Where are you buying your CYA these days?

I recently ordered a 10lb bag for $60 off amazon. Was about the best price I could find after comparing other websites. In comparison, 25lbs for $95 looks pretty good

Summer Mode - Preparing for Battle

Im all to familar with our lovely pollen here. Get a pack of the skimmer socks on Amazon. They will do wonders. I change them our every 3ish days and just toss in the trash...they get disgusting green/brown. You will see though how much they trap pollen from going into your filter.

    Moving to Liquid Chlorine Questions

Steve, as others have said, you will get a feel for how much CL you go through each day. My pool uses about 4 ppm a day. Rather than testing everyday, I add a gallon of 10% everyday, adds 4.5 ppm, and consider it good. I only test 2-3 times a week.

So... there is no bleach in this town. Should I use pucks for a while...?

Just figure each puck adds 2.2 CYA. Use as many and as long as it takes to your preferred CYA level. When I'm gone from the house for a week, I'll throw in 5 pucks and I know I'm raising my CYA by 10.

Hot climates chime in.. how much CYA do you lose?

Looked at my water temp today, 95. Felt like a bath. This heat here this weekend is warming everything up. I'll tell you a story that kinda perplexes me but is relevant. We've been on a few 5-14 day vacations since the end of June and have had to use pucks to mantain chlorine while away. I've...

Pool is two weeks old and I’m brand new.

You will figure out overtime exactly what half a gallon vs the whole gallon will add. I add a gallon of 6.0 a day and call it good bc I know it will raise my cl 4-4.5. In the summer, I lose about 4.0 a day.Im not concerned about +/- .5-1.5 addition cl. Just make sure your cl doesn't fall below...

    Need to raise CH level

So when you say hot, you mean hot to the skin right?. Shouldn't matter if I'm pouring hot water in the pool?

    Need to raise CH level

Yeah, the water is hard but has become diluted overtime. Has been a very wet fall and winter here. Thanks for for the info.

    Need to raise CH level

Ive recently found out through many threads here that Cal hypo tablets cannot be used in an in line chlorinator... and I dont want a floater floating around. So I guess that leaves me to granules. Are there any things (additives) to deicer that i need to look for or will any bag work? Also...

Brought up CYA but still not holding Chlorine

I use a bottle of 6% bleach EVERY day. In the evening, my FC is somewhere between 3-4. After I pour a bottle in, it brings me somewhere around 9. I have full sun, sun up to sun down.

    Hot Texas Sun

    Rain affecting chemistry

    Thanks everyone

    Rain affecting chemistry

With a good rainfall, lets say 3-5" or more, what parts of the water chemistry is going to change the most? Im guessing FC will be weakened significantly. Any others that have a high fluctuation or should you test everything and treat accordingly?

Fresh plaster but I have a question

Our pool was plastered, acid washed, and filled on 5/5. Sat with water for 2.5 days before PB came out to start equipment. I was a little nervous as well with water just sitting there. Ive been brushing twice a day and did not see any dust until about day 5 - so I think youll be fine. Currently...
