    Pentair Intelliflo XF vs Intelliflo3

The 3 was designed off the XF wet end and both are very similar. I would get whichever you can get a better deal on. The XF is easier to service and replace seals. The 3 needs to have the electronics completely disassembled to do the same repair.

Skimmer Suction Air Leak - Hypothetical?

The XF’s lids are even worse… they are the same design as the whisperflo/Intelliflo, but they have a stop in it that limits how tight you can get the lid (the ears can’t go past 180 degrees). They never seem to tighten down enough and in my experience, the XF pumps always have more air in the...

Skimmer Suction Air Leak - Hypothetical?

I've seen pumps do that with dirty filters or obstructed returns. It seems like the return restriction would help the pump fully prime but that isn't always the case. Sometimes you need the flow to clear the pump lid air. Even if the skimmer wall is cracked, I don't see how that could draw air...

    MasterTemp Unions

I found an old header but the extensions were glued in  The face for the external o-ring was thicker than I remembered to that would probably work but I’m still thinking you wouldn’t be able to remove the TR plug without also removing the entire union…and that’s assuming the female...

    MasterTemp Unions

I think those CMP unions won’t clear the thermoregulator plug. I wonder if that’s the reason for the extensions?

    MasterTemp Unions

Well now You have me bewildered. Those are MIP so no taper and they’re designed for pumps but I always thought the pumps were NPT since sch 80 nipples are usually used. I’ll have to see if I can find an old header and see.

    MasterTemp Unions

Those are NPT so I doubt it. The edge of the header inlet/outlet is very thin and sharp so I don’t think that O-ring would seal against it without popping off or getting cut…But I’d like to try😂 I don’t understand why Pentair uses those extensions instead of just using NPT and unions directly...

    MasterTemp Unions

It’s straight thread and there’s an o-ring inside like a compression fitting. I’ve cracked 2 headers trying to get an NPT nipple to thread into it without leaking…it just goes to show you I was dumb enough to try twice 😂 NPT will thread right in until the taper limits it and it’ll leak under...

Pump recommendations for Grotto water feature

You don’t want to use the skimmer for a water feature suction since that would send dirt and debris to the waterfall. Dual wall ports are what you want with a large suction line. If you don’t have a main drain or an equalizer line then plug the front hole in the bottom of the skimmer.

Pump recommendations for Grotto water feature

Sorry, I didn't realize you were doing this with a single pump. You absolutely need a variable speed pump then. You not only have the head pressure from the plumbing but also the filter which will cause an even more significant flow reduction.

Pump recommendations for Grotto water feature

The pipe size is an issue then because of the friction loss it adds. A low head pump will be very restricted since it does not produce very much pressure and the 2" pipe is too restrictive. To use a low head pump, the suction should be 3" with a 2.5" return (minimum). My suggestion is to use a...

    Skimmer plumbed wrong

Your pool is finished and filled now? That return pipe looks like it got buried because the seat in front of it interfered. If the pool is actually finished then i would leave it be, if the pool is not finished then definitely correct it. They'll probably need to raise that seat height to...

    Plumbing question...how bad is it?

You actually have a pretty good length of pipe to the inlet of your pumps. Just because those valves are there doesn't mean that they don't count as a straight section of pipe since those valves are completely open on the inside. A typical pool does not have those valves on the inlet of the...

I'm partial to the Stetson Auto Fillers. The filler is simple (not a toilet valve) and there's an overflow incorporated into the canister
