New VGreeen motor and pump housing a week old, was dry after install, but now leaking.

For sure Not the impeller. All else is possible of course.

    Did I ruin my motor

The seal has nothing to do with the smoke. As you know the seals are on one end and the wiring for most are on the other end. A wire / wires in there got moved so it is touching something it should not. Only it did the smoke test it should be easy to see now. You would need to run the dry...

New pool pump leaking out the bottom

If it ran dry for a long time the seal can be shot. NEVER lube a shaft seal.

Pump Motor Locking Up Each Night - starts w/ manual crank

From your description of the impeller not being able to be turned by your fingers but can with a wrench says a tight bearing. Cheap fix if you can do yourself.

    Suction-side leak...no water loss

Perfect, that can help you. Once the ground dries out the problem should come back. Once that happens soak the ground in sections, slowly so the water goes down and not spread out. See if you can get that basket air less ( no bubbles). Move along taking time for the water to soak to pipe...

    Upgrade skimmer without replacing liner

What do you hope to gain by going with a wide mouth ? Being here in Ontario i would think you use a solar blanket most all the time so skimming is reduced and the use of some sort of cleaner running around in the pool is what does the cleaning anyway ? If you had a wide mouth and wanted to go...

Pump basket doesn't fill completely .. at my wits end.. grrrrrrrrrrr....

Should be easy to prove but can be harder to fix. Do a pressure test with air. Any pool repair guy can do this or make up the necessary fittings yourself. You may need to use it over time if you keep the pool / house.

Is my pump completely dead, half dead, or...?

Can be a number of things, even a bad breaker pushing near the break amperage. It is a heat issue you have and proven when temps dropped, time got extended. Bad bearings to a defective thermal if that motor has one. Also a good blow / cleaning may be all it needs. ( needs to be taken apart )...

    Second Skimmer hole

That's the million dollar question. If it is plugged in the skimmer because of a leak there also needs to be a plug down in the main drain also. If that was the reason then the pipe from the main drain up to the skimmer can be drained and filled with antifreeze as a back up and never touched...

    Breaker tripping

There you go, the guys on here are so good all you need do it Post and it is fixed.:) I am guess this is a 120V, not 240? You said let Dry Out, what do you think is / was wet. It do not take much for GFCI to pop. Could be moisture in the switch box or a bad switch sparking when you flip it...

Skimmer lid flying off and loud "whooshing" sound heard when pump turned off

How much air is coming out the returns in the form of bubbles?

    Filter sucking in air

What you did was cause your pump to overwork a little causing it to suck harder which in turn broke down a weak spot on your lid gasket. That will let air in when running and will allow the pump basket to lost prime when shut down. As you discovered all it needed was a lube job. Gud on ya.

Automatic water level control for winter - leaving our pool full

ha ha, you sound like me when i had more energy. Nothing was designed right and i had to modify everything. True on the liner issues. To low and you can have a problem, to high and water around the coping, could be another problem. Me, today, i would lower the water to the bottom of the...

    Portable Pump Is Not Priming

I use the same set up with an old pump and works and primes no problem. After a minute or two all the air is sucked out and i get a full basket. You have an air leak on your input.

First winter with mesh safety cover

With a liner try and keep as much water in the pool as you can. Depending on the water table you want as much pressure pushing that liner out as you can get. If you already do not have it, get liner lock in there also.

    Solving suction side air leak

There you go, that's better then saying it is pretty much normal Jim. Bubbles is AIR in the water, period. If everything is tight and the water level in the pool is correct you will have no air even at 100 RPM ;) We are discovering that Many have had leaks for years and never knew it till...

Using a generator + 220v plug to send out 220V (to TEST out hot tubs)

The motor is not the only thing to look at, the heater will take a lot of amps also depending on the size and there are many. Never seen an electric generator :(.. For a fraction of the cost of a huge genny you can tap off a 220V plug from your main panel and can remove it if / when you ever move.

    Suction Side Leak (Skimmer)?

I think the OP is misunderstanding you Texas, or i am :).. I would plug the skimmer inside the skimmer and have it turned off at the pad. By just turning it off at the pad the water is still in the skimmer piping.

Pump GFCI breaker trips when bonding wire attached

You can narrow it down maybe by removing everything on the bond wire and first connect only your newest motor, then your older waterfall pump motor, etc etc. It does not take much to trip a GFCI , even a dead fried spider or ant will do it. Dust / dirt that is damp can also be an issue...
