Is There a Pool Finish with Even Color?

I appreciate the input. It seems to be getting harder and harder to find people who do good quality work for anything. That's why I was hoping for some finish that is less skill dependent. I found this interesting article which states that uneven color is caused by poor workmanship...

Is There a Pool Finish with Even Color?

My plaster is on its way out. It's at least 10 years old if now older I didn't help it by draining the pool, but I had a pump failure and the water was not worth saving. I will say the water looks incredible now, but there have been some bumps showing up on the floor of the pool, which from...

Getting to the end of the build and now I’ve been thrown another curve.

Most home automation systems connect to a cloud server so you would need internet. You would also need outdoor Wifi if the controllers for these devices are outside.

Swing Valve for Spa Won't Open

I don't quite understand. Can you elaborate further?

Swing Valve for Spa Won't Open

I ordered a new valve, and it was WAY larger than the old one. The one I purchased is a 2" valve. I thought I was ordering the correct size based on the OD of the union threads. Wrong! I am having some real difficulty finding this valve in the same size. It's a bit confusing. When the...

Swing Valve for Spa Won't Open

I just took the valve out, and measured the opening force at the center of the valve. It measured 3/4 lb. I just ordered a new one rated at 1/2 lb. That's a good point. I believe it is about 15 psi when set to the spa. The pump motor is out of commission, so I can't check it right.

Swing Valve for Spa Won't Open

At this point, I am not sure. When they reference 1/2 lb, is that 1/2 psi, or 1/2 lb force to open the valve?

Swing Valve for Spa Won't Open

Jim, These are very good questions. The check valve appears to require the same pressure to open it, and holding it open. I don't feel any sticking. The filter was recently cleaned. I disassemble the Pentair filter for cleaning, rather than back flushing. That way I can make sure it is...

Swing Valve for Spa Won't Open

I can't find the receipt now, but I believe it was this one. https://www.amazon.com/Valterra-200-CU20-Swing-Spring-Combination/dp/B00B95UUJQ/ref=sr_1_14?keywords=pool+check+valve&sr=8-14

Swing Valve for Spa Won't Open

I have a Pentair Superflo 1.5 pump. It gives me about 11 psi pressure when the filter is clean.

Swing Valve for Spa Won't Open

Hi Jim, Yes, it won't fill and spill into the pool. I put a new check valve in, but it did not correct the situation. The valve will work occasionally when the filter is clean. The valve is definitely not in backwards. Here is the other strange behavior. If I set the output valve to "spa"...

Swing Valve for Spa Won't Open

I put a new valve in, and it didn't help unfortunately.

Swing Valve for Spa Won't Open

Here you go. The pipe in the middle going to the valve is from the hot water heater. The pipe on the right side of the valve and going down goes to the pool. The pipe on the left side of the valve and going down goes to the spa. The swing gate check valve in the middle flows from the pool...

Pentair Superflo 1.5 Pump Motor Recommendations

I appreciate the tip on the Neptune motor replacement. I have a service factor motor now that is 1.1. The Neptune motors look much more programmable than the Century units. I'm going to do some shopping for the Neptune NPTQ165. Thank you!

Pentair Superflo 1.5 Pump Motor Recommendations

The bearings on my Pentair Superflo 1.5 h.p. pump starting getting noisy, so I ordered new motor bearings. While waiting for parts, the pump failed to start one day, and I could tell it was going into thermal cycling. I immediately cut power to the pump. Lucky me, I took the pump apart, and...

Swing Valve for Spa Won't Open

On the outlet side of the pump is a T-fitting with a swing valve that bleeds some water going to the pool and sends it to the spa. The problem is the swing valve doesn't open reliably, and then no water goes to the spa. The swing valve acts as a check valve for times you have the t-valve set...

Looking for HONEST Pool Supply Vendor

Thank you for the report on Inyo Pools. That sounds like the type of supplier I am looking for. Once I find a good supplier, I stick with them.

Looking for HONEST Pool Supply Vendor

Thank you! I've been to that store, and the one in Thousand Oaks. They are a bit pricey, but their parts are authentic. Unfortunately, lately, with the effect of COVID on the supply chain, they have been short on some parts.

Looking for HONEST Pool Supply Vendor

I checked with Polytech and Inyo Pools. Both said they sell Polaris branded parts. I'll give them a try. Thanks for the tip.

Looking for HONEST Pool Supply Vendor

They are pool supply sites. It's easy to tell they are knockoffs. For one, they are not in Polaris packaging. I've also gone on the Polaris and Pentair websites, and products shipped by these sites do not have the correct markings.

Looking for HONEST Pool Supply Vendor

I appreciate the suggestions. In my experience and opinion, though, you can take Pool Supply World off the list of reputable vendors. Also it looks like BBB agrees with my assessment. Pool Supply World has a BBB rating of "F". I won't buy from them again.

Looking for HONEST Pool Supply Vendor

I've now had three companies try to scam me by saying they are selling me Pentair or Polaris parts, and they substitute cheap knockoffs thinking I won't notice. I I want to give my money to honest, hard working people who send out the parts they say the will. I only buy brand names. Let me...

Adhesive Recommendations for Replacing Tiles That Fell Off

The tiles around my pool are irregular shaped. At one location around the perimeter of the pool, a small tile fell off. I didn't think much of it, until another fell off, right next to where the first one fell off a few months earlier. Then a few days ago, a large tile fell off adjacent to...

Outlet Pipe for Polaris Booster Pump - Metal or Plastic?

That was a good idea using the magnet. I did not get any magnetic force, so I guess it is probably plastic. It just looked like metal. I'm going to go ahead and take it apart.

Outlet Pipe for Polaris Booster Pump - Metal or Plastic?

I went to change the housing on my Polaris booster pump for the pool sweep, and noticed that the pump outlet pipe screwed into the pump housing is metal rather than plastic. This metal pipe is going into plastic on both ends, the pump housing and the pipe fitting. It looks like the pipe might...

    2019 Bleach Prices

I had to educate our Home Depot about the date codes on their stock, and that they need to rotate it. I told them they were selling water for $4 a gallon. :) I was buying Chlorox 8.25% at Costco with much of it not more than about a week old. Then Costco cheaped out, and it was down to...
