    Pump not working right?

Finally! Success! I was out all day on Saturday and ignored the pool. This morning when I checked it, BAM! Clear water! I still have some work to do. There is a white sediment on the pool floor that I can see. I will hook up my manual pool vac and hit those spots tomorrow morning. I’m also...

    Pump leaking from bottom

I have discovered that I have a considerable leak when my pump is run on the high setting. It is not coming from the lid. I can see a steady drip coming from directly beneath the pump where the circular basket part joins to the longer motor portion. Is there a gasket in there? Is it something a...

    Pump not working right?

I tried 1 cup and then 3/4 of a cup with the same result. I add it and check an hour later and there is no flow from the return. I just backwashed and added 1/2 cup. I have always followed TFP and know that it works. I'm not a chemist, so I'm not sure why I should stay away from some of the pool...

    Pump not working right?

After I backwashed, I added another 2 cups of DE. Then in less than 40 min, I had no flow again. It seems like this process will take a lot of water and babysitting. This morning my water was as clear as I had ever seen it. Then The started my vacuum and added DE at the same time. I’m mad at...

    Pump not working right?

Still continuing to work on clearing my cloudy water. I bought DE for pools as recommended. I probably added 2 1/2 cups of DE following the directions on this site. My pressure started at 6 and never changed. I stopped because I thought it was suspicious for it not to change. I have a new...

    Pump not working right?

I am performing a slam and having a challenge getting water to go from cloudy to clear. Normal starting pressure is a 5, but by the time it registers about 5.5 there is very little flow from the returns. I’m not able to let the pressure increase by 25% as recommended or I wouldn’t be moving any...

    Hard to scrub algae

Yes, I'm sure it's algae. The bottom of my above ground pool is not completely flat and I have to scrub the little divots. I think that must be what the problem is.

    Hard to scrub algae

My SLAM is going as well as can be expected. I have seen huge improvements in the color of the water. I have algae on the bottom of my pool though. I have been scrubbing with my pool brush as far as I can reach and running my dolphin. For the most part, the algae "poofs" away when I run the...

Let my "blond" moment be your morning humor

Oh, thank you for that! I would be spinning my wheels yet again. I saw your reminder just a couple of minutes I added chlorine and I was able to readjust the amount based off my new CYA level of 50.

Let my "blond" moment be your morning humor

Or, you can cringe right along with me. I have been slamming my pool for 5 days with virtually no color change in the swamp. I couldn't fill my pool to the normal level because I have a skimmer leak and I'm waiting on my neighbor to help me with plumbing related to that. Anyway...I added CYA to...

    Disappearing CYA

I recently moved my above ground pool. I filled the pool with pond water that cleared in a surprisingly fast 24 hour period. I added CYA and waited for it to show up on my test, which it did. Seven days ago my CYA tested at 30. I use the pool math app, but I must have forgotten to enter the...

    Relocating an above ground pool

The liner needs to be replaced anyway. It has had a rough life. Two years ago I ended up with insecticide in my pool. We farm and the water tanker hose used to fill the pool was contaminated. It was awful. I completely drained the pool, rinsed the liner, then caused a massive 10" tear with a...

    Relocating an above ground pool

We are moving this summer. The pool is coming with us. I'm going to hire the pool company that installed the pool originally to tear it down, move it and put it back up. I consider it a unique opportunity to fix all the stuff I didn't like about my original pool set up. Do any of you that have...

    Need help removing aqualuminator flange

Does anyone out there know how to remove the aqualuminator flange on the inside of the pool? It looks like a special tool is required, but I don't even know what it's called so I can't search for one. I'm stuck! I tried to hard plumb the return side of the pool a few summers ago, and glued parts...

    Sand filter media

Sand works great for me. Make sure it's sand especially for a pool filter. Check your owners manual to determine the proper amount of sand to add.

Storing solar cover over the winter

Great tips! I will try leaving it on the reel at the end of the season this year. I'll wrap it with a tarp and fasten it with bungie cords. What a no fuss way to store it. Each year of pool closing/opening is getting easier and I always learn something new.

Storing solar cover over the winter

I am interested to hear what the different ways are that members store their solar covers in the off season. My one season old solar cover was destroyed by mice over the winter. Apparently, my pool shed was mouse HQ for the winter. So nasty. Holes were chewed throughout. The floor was covered in...

Sediment from well water/where to start?!

At our house we fill our pool from a well not used for drinking. My pool looks and smells like a pond until my sand filter does it's job. It usually takes about 3 days after my first big fill of the season for the water to be clear again. I just follow TFP practices and before long we are swimming.

Aphid honeydew secretions in clorine outdoor pool

Kill the aphids and your problem will be solved! I had a tree like this years ago. I was getting honey dew all over my house, patio and landscape plants. It was nasty. I bought a product called Bayer Tree & Shrub. It was easy to use and got rid of the aphids.

    Looking pretty green

Ok, thanks! I'll check pool math and add chlorine to 8ppm and go from there. I have a sump pump going with a hose near the surface so water is moving in a circular direction already. I'll brush the walls and floor to further stir things up.

    Looking pretty green

I'm totally confused now. I went to my local Rural King and purchased 32 gallons of liquid chlorine. (I forgot MA! Grrr!!!) I just ran all of my tests. Here are the results. FC 0 CC 0 pH >8.2 TA 70 CYA 48 My pool looks like pea soup and I can see small clumps of algae. I ran the CC test two...

    Looking pretty green

Hi all, I swore this would NEVER happen to me. I've been following this site and using the methods here since I got my pool. I have always done really well, until now anyway. My pool cover blew off in February for the 3rd year in a row, algae began to grow when water temp was less than 50°...

    Dolphin E10 Review

After following this thread since the beginning, I purchased my very own Dolphin E10. I ordered it on Monday and it arrived on Friday. Sunplay had the best price and after a call to Sunplay confirmed that they were allowed to sell online and the warranty would be intact. There is a warranty card...

Fantastic site! Never saw it before! Algae is killing me,HELP!

8borerifle, my pool is larger than yours, but not by much. I use about a quart each day of 10% bleach. I can buy 4, 1 gallon jugs of 10% at a local supply store for $7.99. So, I can dose my pool for 16 days for $8. Some days I need less, like if I've used my solar cover a lot.

    Help please

It could be a variety of things, but without proper test results, it will be hard to give recommendations. Pool store tests are not often accurate. Most of us here have ordered a test kit from tftestkits.net. I have the tf-100.

Fantastic site! Never saw it before! Algae is killing me,HELP!

Pool School is a great place to read about how we all manage pools on this site. Look at the top of the screen for the big pool school button. You can start reading just about anywhere, but a SLAM will probably be your first order of business after adjusting your pH and getting your CYA in line...
