Small pool chlorine consumption rates & levels

@mknauss its a concrete pool, not fiberglass.... and there is a black plastic roof job, it is possibly running through that permanently i think... (sister is getting up to speed on operating it), i'll work that out too. @mgtfp yep - thats sounds like a ballpark figure, even if you're out by...

Small pool chlorine consumption rates & levels

Helping out the sister with her small pool... (based in Aus) It used to be one of those "magic mineral" pools when built, then changed to Salt chlorinator, now chlorine & acid dosing... with the magic ORP system. (FFS!) As "they couldnt get it working right after it was built"... *sigh* Its a...

    PV panels and electric heater

heya - fellow Aus here... posted the same thing here: Resistive heater - free electricity For reference, i pay 28c per kw/h for electricity, and I can see it back to the grid at 11c per kw/h. So its all about consuming what i can, as you get little back from generating. I chose the most...

    Resistive heater - free electricity

its a 5kw setup, use 1/8th the capacity through the day, so would have 4kw to spare. I'm going to setup some CT's on the feeds & connect it to an arduino, see if i can successfully log & measure the excess power. Then use that to control an SCR for initially my water heater, and maybe this

    Resistive heater - free electricity

I've got a 7kw air con unit there... but that'd mean fridgework, titanium exchanger, lots of plumbing - labor costs here are INSANE. Plus it'd be heating when i want cooling etc... i'd expect about $2-3k for that setup *easy* Heat pump - $10k install. I could DIY for $500 or so if there's...

    Resistive heater - free electricity

yes i know... i'm VERY aware of the cost & efficiency of using resistive heating, power consumption, cable runs etc... However... Solar is installed & i need to use more of it (In Aus we get paid close to zero for generating), so thinking about setting up a resistive element to get *A FEW...

    Where has my CYA gone?

Tested a week after I added 1kg (about) of CYA & yep back up to 45. So it apperas the CYA did leave the pool during the SLAM

    Where has my CYA gone?

I'll setup a camera to see if one of our native killing machine animals is eating the CYA then ;) Popped 1kg in the other day, so will test again to confirm levels are up - either way its <$30 so no huge concern if it walked out.

    Where has my CYA gone?

Taylor 2006 - 1 month old kit good - passed the OLT 2 weeks ago, just figuring out where my SWG needs to be set with my pool - so changing the levels a bit. Very little debris makes its way into the pool - a manual clean every week yields very little dust/dirt/leaves. The skimmer picks up most...

    Where has my CYA gone?

Just finished the SLAM & its all looking perfect on all the levels. About a month before the SLAM (2 months ago) I added CYA & it was at the upper levels 80-90. Tested it again & its <10! I've only done about 3-4 back washes, but they're only <2min & probably lost about 3" of so of water level...

TPFC, Algae, and other settings (long post warning!)

You MUST get a good test kit - only thing that can be done. Got mine in the US from PST pool supplies - good enough price & pretty quick delivery (<1 week) You HAVE to get a LARGE kit for the FC tests though, as you're doing the SLAM & will have to do a LOT of tests. I've got a 50,000L and run...

First post, could use some help

You'll run out of reagent if you got a smaller test kit! I just finished my SLAM & had to go blind for a week :\ You can also buy separate reagents for the Chlorine test alone - so i'd do that. Your pool is pretty green so there will be a LOT of algae.... Skimmer sock (so you dont fill up the...

New to pool ownership - first tests done - Doing the SLAM

Re: New to pool ownership - first tests done - Doing the SLA And we're done... Final levels: CH: 310 PH: 7.6 FC: 12-13 (coming down from SLAM) TA: 100 (pool $hop lead me down that path, never been in the range) So we're pretty much bang on! CH is right where it needs to be & FINALLY not...

New to pool ownership - first tests done - Doing the SLAM

Re: New to pool ownership - first tests done - Doing the SLA yeah algae has gone today - as soon as I brushed it, it gave up all hope! Will do another 2 days even though i've passed the test already etc. CC is still nothing from this mornings tests. Chlorine more effective - well the granular...

New to pool ownership - first tests done - Doing the SLAM

Re: New to pool ownership - first tests done - Doing the SLA looking good... the water has been immaculate for a week now. No cloudyness & insanely clear. yesterdays brush revealed absolutely bugger all gunk (dead grey algae) - less than 1/8tsp, which was probably missed from the previous...

New to pool ownership - first tests done - Doing the SLAM

Re: New to pool ownership - first tests done - Doing the SLA yeah probably not too good. I sprinkled a little granular on the steps directly as thats where its been the problem - the floor it came off pretty quickly & the other step it came off really well. I was initially leaving the patch as...

New to pool ownership - first tests done - Doing the SLAM

Re: New to pool ownership - first tests done - Doing the SLA Ok so finally got my reagents & did a chlorine test... i've been winging it for the last week or so, throwing in what I think is correct... tested.... 29 at the end of the day! (should be at 31) So pretty much bang on, not bad after...

New to pool ownership - first tests done - Doing the SLAM

Re: New to pool ownership - first tests done yeah will see if i can hold it up with some regular small additions of chlorine. Did a quick manual scan & there's still a bit of green algae here & there. Another tablespoon of grey goop from vacuuming. So a few more days to go!

Re: New to pool ownership - first tests done Looking good... FC - 29 this morning... and then... RAN OUT OF R-0871! :\ only got the little 0.75oz bottles & didnt realise I had to SLAM. So... i've got another day or two to go, but i'll be 100% blind! Suggestions? The last few additions have...

New to pool ownership - first tests done - Doing the SLAM

Re: New to pool ownership - first tests done But of course! Quite intrigued to see the SLAM process work definitively too :) Afternoon test - looking good. fc = 29 (SLAM = 31) So after 3 hours only lost a little! (with some sunshine too) Did a vacuum & very little came out too - about 2tsp of...

Re: New to pool ownership - first tests done must've been reading the outside of the gauge... :\ kpa but yeah def back down to 3psi on medium & nothing on low speed. Lunch update... FC = 21, so topped it up again! Looking nice & clear, cloudy but meh. Not much in the sock. Did some...

New to pool ownership - first tests done - Doing the SLAM

Re: New to pool ownership - first tests done Yeah I know - it was on a crazy special at the hardware store & I need to increase the CH a lot. 4kg of 700g/kg = $29 10kg of 650g/kg = $29*** 15L of 12.5% = $10 All other levels have been stable - just didnt have the CH & salt tests until now...

New to pool ownership - first tests done - Doing the SLAM

Re: New to pool ownership - first tests done Down to 19 this arvo (only tested twice today due to work) Went to get more chlorine, they didnt have any liquid - but they had granular. Didnt realise it was a lot stronger (good thing!) and adds Calcium hardness - which is something I need too! so...

Newbie - looking for cleaner advice

yeah i've been doing some reading - but most of the models discussed seem to be US based & not available here. So i'm just after some guidance on "features" i'll need & then go from there. For the wall scrubbing - is it just done with the large plastic bristled brushes? (about 1.5-2ft wide) Any...

Re: New to pool ownership - first tests done yep thats what i'll use... down to 26 this morning, so another dose to get it up to 31 & see how it is this arvo! I'll be glad when its sorted :)

New to pool ownership - first tests done - Doing the SLAM

Re: New to pool ownership - first tests done Back up to 29.5... CC is always minimal, i'm doing the 10ml test (reduce the amount of reagent), but its only ever been 1 drop & complete change - almost undetectable levels of CC

Newbie - looking for cleaner advice

OK - i've done the basic reading... Pool - Concrete (plaster?) 50,000L with pebblecrete surface. Its kidney shaped with the skimmer in the middle on the long straight side, the 2 returns push water almost parallel with the long straight side away from the skimmer. (hope that makes sense)...

New to pool ownership - first tests done - Doing the SLAM

Re: New to pool ownership - first tests done Update with SLAMing... 12:00 - FC = 29 16:30 - FC = 23.5 Cloudy day, no direct/strong sunlight & a little rain (<2mm) You can smell the chlorine when you put an arm in there, but its not worse than a public pool really (over a decade as a...

Low speed pumps causing gas bubbles

I'm in Straya & just installed that very pump! I get champagne bubbles out the jets but NO bubbles inside of the SWG. Its mounted vertical & is a Watermaid ez300 (i think?). Pump is sitting at 1370rpm on low & there's a HEAP of water flow to stop gas build up in my setup.

New to pool ownership - first tests done - Doing the SLAM

Re: Just got my kit and completed tests Hmmm the SLAM guide doesnt mention anything about swimming while slammin? Also what about "post" SLAM - do you just turn off the SWG & let it drop to the range? or do you turn down the SWG & let it slowly drop?
