First-Time Water Test & Some Questions

Thanks. Everyone here is great! Got the SWG wired in after getting saline level up to the minimum and letting it roll. All that's left now is to replace a leaky 2" pipe to the solar panels and clean and repack the DE filter. It's been a Loooong road.

First-Time Water Test & Some Questions

Okay. I missed Reggie's post and I didn't quite get the level up to 6ppm, but the results of the OCLT are: Last Night @ 7:30 PM FC = 5.6 This Morning @ 7:00 AM FC = 5.4 So, I should be good to go? After 7 bags of salt I'm up to about 2400ppm. Another 3 or 4 bags should get me to my target.

    Dirty Morton Pool Salt

I just dumped 7 bags ofMorton's Professional Pool Salt from Home Depot into my pool and was surprised to see black dirt (or something) on the floor of my pool. Is this normal? Is there better salt I should have used?

Will a pool vacuum remove this?

I think that bed liner has the beginnings of a fine DIY spa.

First-Time Water Test & Some Questions

I'm about to convert the pool to SWG (Circupool RJ60+). I had very high CyA and had fresh water trucked in, replacing about 2/3 of the pool water. Here are my test findings from a Taylor K-2006 test kit and a few added reagents: CyA = 45 ppm Free Cl = 2.6 ppm Combined Cl = 0.4 pH = 7.8 Total...

    Circupool RJ-60 Install question

Okay. I can probably do that through the diverter valve. So, your suggestion is to still put the cell after the solar output?

    Circupool RJ-60 Install question

Solar is off right now, but the pump runs at 35 GPM. This is Florida and the sun is pretty intense. I've seen close to 100° F from the outlet pipe on the pool wall, so it is going to be hotter than that at the point where it starts to go underground. I've had the pool itself easily hit 90°.

    Circupool RJ-60 Install question

Thanks. There is only plastic piping and plastic (FAFCO) panels for the solar system.

    Circupool RJ-60 Install question

The manual states to install the salt cell after the pool heater. However, this does not seem to be a good idea, in my mind. My solar panels can easily pump out 100°+ water, which is warmer than the upper limit recommended by the manufacture. Wouldn't installing the cell after the filter be a...

    Hose clamps that won't rust.

316 Stainless is probably the best. If you can't find them locally, McMaster-Carr is a good choice: https://www.mcmaster.com/hose-clamps/material~stainless-steel/material~316-stainless-steel/

    Draining a Salt Water Pool

Yeah. Last time the liner was replaced we dumped about 13K of (unsalted) water. Not many outfits could capture water at all, so I thought I was fortunate to get back what we had.

Liquid. My CYA is about 150. Need to get my well fixed and then drain off some water and refill before I do anything.

    Draining a Salt Water Pool

No salt right now. I am debating with the idea of converting to a salt pool, but first want to understand all the good and bad that comes with it. In the next few years we are going to need a new liner. The last company was able to capture 1/3 of the pool's water, but not all. No assurance...

    Draining a Salt Water Pool

This was a question to understand what the ramifications of going to a salt water pool. We don't have city water or sewer and rely on a well and a septic system, so my lawn is the repository of draining water from rain and the 5 to 7 year maintenance cycle to replace the in-ground vinyl liner...

    Draining a Salt Water Pool

Rut Ro! What happens when I need to replace my pool's vinyl liner and drain 20,000 gallons of saltwater on my lawn? Feeling a bit like Odysseus here sowing 600 pounds of salt.

    Help Selecting the Right SWCG

Yes, the feedback I have seen on the Circupool RJ series seems pretty good. My only concern is the impact of southern facing direct sunlight in Florida on the plastic control box and possibly the chlorinator. I wish the original builders had thought to put all the pool equipment on the...

    Help Selecting the Right SWCG

Is that something like EC-521105 and EC520556 as a set? For example: Pentair Intellichlor Salt Chlorine Generator | 60,000 Gallon Complete System | IC60KIT

    Help Selecting the Right SWCG

Looking for the right system for my pool of 20K gallons in sunny Florida. A 40K generator would be the minimum size, but I am leaning toward 60K as the cost premium is not that much more. I like the Pentair IC60KIT, but the requirement for professional installation for a warranty is a bit...

    SWCG Cost of Operation

Thanks!!! I am definitely a DIY person. Understand that the pool chemistry still needs monitoring and adjustment. I guess it comes down to what systems might be best. One issue is that all the pool equipment and the 220/120 electrical box is on the West wall of the house and gets the...

    SWCG Cost of Operation

I am wondering if a SWCG would be economical in the long haul. My objective is to make maintaining the pool easier than manually adding liquid chlorine. What would be a recommended system for my 20K gallon vinyl-lined in-ground pool? I do not have automation, just run my Pentair VS pump on a...

    Algae Issues

The CYA will inhibit any damage to the liner? My wife s just worried. The well is drawing sand. Unfortunatelly, all the well services here have a huge backlog or 3 to 6 months already (probably due to the housing boom we have). We can't connect to city water becuase it would be expensive to...

    Algae Issues

I had to dilute the pool water with distilled water 1:3 to get a reading of 50 on the scale. That translates to a CYA of about 150. Now, my understanding about UV-C is that a wavelength of 264 nm is the desired wavelength to kill algae. The spectrum of sunlight at sea level at this wavelength...

    Algae Issues

I have the Taylor 2005 and 2006 FAS-DPD test kits. I use the R-0001 and R-0002 reagents from the 2005 kit for Chlorine measurements. Not a good idea? I can order larger bottles of regents. I figured the smaller ones would be better because they get used up faster and I don't need to worry...

    Algae Issues

Just joined to learn more about pool care as things have gone whacky this year. We've had our pool for 15 years, an in-ground vinyl-lined 20,000 gallon, screened-in pool. 14 of those years have been pretty easy to maintain, so no big worries. Look forward to learning more. Here's the...
