Coming chlorine shortage? - It is Here!

Yep! The thing is if they can't get tablets it will cause a shortage for liquid too.

Coming chlorine shortage? - It is Here!

I agree. That being said, people are panicking now that the news outlets have picked it up. one guy bought out a local ACE and they LET him. Not having heard about apparently. 35 cases! Also in the northern states they are just reaching peak opening season which will last another 5-6...

Coming chlorine shortage? - It is Here!

The gal that took over my pool service back in Illinois is having trouble obtaining supplies. One of my old sources runs a local hardware store and someone came in when he wasn't there, and a worker allowed the customer to buy out their stock, 35 cases. I told him going forward to limit to 6...

Intelliflo Making Loud noise - 1st startup of the season - please take a listen to it!

Yes, that's the only way. Lately, most pool repairmen just recommend replacing the motor because the stuff on the market today is not made as well as pumps used to be.

    Grayish Algae?

Have you ordered your own kit yet? That is either dead algae or pollen that has settled on the bottom.

Intelliflo Making Loud noise - 1st startup of the season - please take a listen to it!

Have you checked the impeller? (I think the sound is the bearings have gone/are going bad. )

New, proud owner of neglected 50 year old gunite pool

Great points! (And yes I was very frustrated by that decision by Photobucket.)

    New Quartz Plaster Calcium Hardness

Whose instructions? Did they give a reason why? you don't need to dilute it, you can just pour it slowly in front of the return and leave the system running so it can fully circulate. Have you used Pool Math yet? Do you know how much liquid chlorine to add, to reach 2ppm?

SLAM’ing - going through lots of liquid chlorine

Not always. I've actually had pools have both. Makes eradicating it much more difficult because it requires a longer process and more chlorine.

    New Quartz Plaster Calcium Hardness

You're on day three? You need to slowly get liquid chlorine in there before your water turns... CYA/stabilizer? By any chance did they also install a tablet feeder or just the SWG?

SLAM’ing - going through lots of liquid chlorine

Are you only testing CCs in the morning? So what I learned when tackling ammonia situations (probably in the hundreds at this point) is the CCs are very high and FC very low within one hour of using traditional SLAM methods. So for example, raise the FC up to slam level, wait an hour or so and...

    Towel storage ideas for outside

I saw a really cute idea that used a pallet. They installed hooks on it for towels and noodles can be stored inside. I'll see if I can find a pic.

I would actually run it on low and see if you can get it to settle, then you can vac it out... Good luck!

SLAM’ing - going through lots of liquid chlorine

Sounds like you could possibly have had an ammonia issue. Have you read anything about it? Stabilizer/CYA can convert to ammonia over the winter. It creates a huge chlorine demand at start up. Were you seeing high CCs during this SLAM? What is your FC/CC level now? I buy an ammonia test...

    Salinity

I typically let it go through one or two water turnovers. So at least a day for it to fully dissolve and register.

Okay, sounds like you have a handle on it. I always use Sequa Sol on my clients even when it has oxidized and it typically helps within 24 hours. Might be worth a shot. ;)

    Until my test kit arrives...

You need a way to circulate the chlorine or it will just settle and puddle. A big brush on a pole to stir it around, make sure to thoroughly mix it. That 12 oz is based on the size of the pool full? If so, cut it in have since the pool is only half that. You need to get stabilizer dissolving...

TA high in fiberglass pool with SWG. Do I need to adjust?

Not important. You may see your ph creep up, so just use muratic acid to lower the ph anytime it goes over 7.8. If you target 7.2 when you calculate how much acid to add, over time the SWG which is a source of aeration, will continue to cause the PH to creep up. The muratic acid will help...

    Iron has precipitated, now what...

Question, what condition is the filter in? Was it new for this year? How old is it? I had a client who had soooo much iron in the water the filter was orange/brown and completely coated to the point it wouldn't filter anymore. That's why I ask about the age and condition of the cartridge?

help - new to pools and very confused

I would ignore all of the other recommendations aside from TFP. I do think that 4-6 is a target level though. I recall when he wrote the recommendations it was based on the fact that the SWG is putting out a steady output of chlorine so its easier to maintain at the lower end. I wouldn't...

    Iron has precipitated, now what...

I think you are doing all you can right now. I would not bother with attempting the AA treatment. Have you tried Sequa-Sol? You can order online. I would try the Sequa-Sol combined with the continued filtration. I'm surprised it hasn't settled on the bottom, so you can vacuum it to waste...

    Salt consumption

I haven't had to add any salt to my salt-clients since initial spring balance, and that was with record rain levels around here this year. You're right... we used to have a saying around here like a decade ago. '90% of the people in the industry don't know anything about pool chemistry. The...
