    Plaster Repair

Throughout the summer I've noticed several areas around the water line, and on the top step of the pool where the plaster seems to have flaked off, exposing the material underneath. What would be the correct way to repair this? Can I just get some more pool paint and cover the areas in new...

    Question on blowing out lines

Quick update on how this worked out. I cleaned out the skimmers, and screwed in a Gizmo in each. Close all valves except the skimmer/drain valve I want Use the shop vac to blow until the main drain bubbled Stopped blowing and put some antifreeze in the line Blow until the main drain bubbles...

    Question on blowing out lines

That makes sense - I can blow from the pump back into the lines - and just keep one skimmer/drain valve open (of the 3 in the picture) and follow your procedure for each. I'll give that a try and see how it goes.

    Question on blowing out lines

There is only one opening in the skimmer... So I guess the setup is something like this: How would I go about getting the air out of the lines in this case, if the main drain is connected to the same plumbing? Would just loading up the pipes with extra antifreeze be sufficient?

    Question on blowing out lines

I am closing my pool in PA for the first time, and feel like I am missing something when blowing out the skimmer lines. No matter how much air I push through the lines, the water level always comes back to the bottom of the skimmer (inside the skimmer box). I believe that this also roughly...

New to Pool ownership - high CYA and algae

Hi Everyone, I wanted to give a quick update and have 1-2 more questions. Finally after 2 weeks I think we made it! Updated status pic here :) (huge difference from my profile pic from when we first moved in) A few lessons learned. - Patience - Don't let the FC levels fall below SLAM...

New to Pool ownership - high CYA and algae

Hi Everyone, I can't believe how helpful you all are on here!! I feel so much better about my pool now than I did even a week ago. I'm now about 24 hours into my SLAM - I brought the CYA up to ~30, and keeping the FC around 13 (per PoolMath). The pool is still quite green, but seems a bit...

New to Pool ownership - high CYA and algae

Hi Everyone, Refill is now complete I just retested levels this morning for the first time and here is where we are: FC: 2.2 CC: 0 pH: 7.3 TA: 85 CH: 170 CYA: 20 A couple things outside the recommended range, and the CYA is a little lower than ideal. Should I adjust these back to recommended...

New to Pool ownership - high CYA and algae

Draining is complete down to about 1' average depth (75% drain). I tested before draining with the K2006C and got a CYA of around 120 - so this should get me back to where I want to be. Still a decent amount of algae in the pool - see picture of current status. Anything else I need to keep...

New to Pool ownership - high CYA and algae

Thanks for everyone's help so far! (I was able to find the liquid chlorine at a different HD last night) When I drain the pool later, would it make sense to add chlorine while the water is low to kill the algae (requiring less chlorine)? Or is that not a good idea, since what we really care...

New to Pool ownership - high CYA and algae

Thanks for the info so far! I'll be updating tomorrow when my test kit is supposed to arrive. I haven't been able to find any liquid chlorine yet - but was able to get some 7.5% bleach from Home Depot. I have 3 drains (1 in the 'spa', 2 in the main pool), and 2 skimmers. Is it possible to...

New to Pool ownership - high CYA and algae

Hi All, I just found this forum yesterday, and have been reading everything I can find! Everything here is so much clearer than the other sites I had found previously. I've been in a new home near Philadelphia with a pool for 2 weeks now. Originally the pool was cloudy, we had it cleaned and...
