Safe to use a sump pump for salt water pool?

Thank you! Our liner is wearing out and the legs are beginning to rust; it's a metal frame above-ground pool.

Safe to use a sump pump for salt water pool?

We're planning to drain our pool, and I'm wondering if it's safe to use a sump pump in a saltwater pool?

    Poop or algae?

Hi pool fam! I have an above ground 12' vinyl pool with a SWG. Background For the last 2 months, it's been too hot, so we haven't been vacuuming or brushing the pool. We also haven't been swimming in the pool. The pool has been staying at 10 FC. The pool accumulated 2 piles of leaves, and most...

Accidentally forgot to turn on SWG. Need to liquid shock?

Hi everyone! We had some storms come through on Monday night, so I turned off my salt water generator...and forgot about it until today, Wednesday. Tested the water with my Taylor kit: FC: 1.8 CC: 0.2 CYA: 70 Crystal clear water, aside from bugs that flew in from the storm. Just added some...

Hi there! We just patched up a leak and need to add a little CYA. (1 ounce) How long do we need to wait to swim after adding it to our skimmer?

Krystal Clear SWG CYA Says 30, Pool School says at least 60?

Gotcha!! I wasn't sure if taking the CYA up to pool school levels would affect the operation of Intex's specific SWG.

Krystal Clear SWG CYA Says 30, Pool School says at least 60?

Hi! Anyone have an Intex Krystal Clear SWG? Are you following the manufacturer CYA levels or pool school? Why would there be a difference in recommendations between the two?

I haven't added chlorine since I opened the pool 4 weeks ago! This is literally the most clear it has ever been!

General Chat Thread: I love SWG because...

I'll go first: 1. Easy leak detection: When the water level is noticably lower, so you refill it, and the salinity level is the same as your starting level - showing a definite evaporation and not a leak!! WIN. 2. Forgot to add nightly chlorine: When you realize 2am into a night out that you...

    Is this a good salt?

Definitely test your salt levels before hand! I have a small pool that was supposed to require 45 lbs. I only needed 39 lbs because of pre-existing sodium! I can't speak to that salt brand though. Sorry :)

Intex Krystal Clear - When can I set up the self-clean function??

Hi fellow Intex SWG owners! Anytime I try to set it up, I get the 93/Power Saving code OR it's turned on and generating, so the buttons don't do anything. Help!

    Salt water and wasps??

I just converted to an and opened my salt water pool. Yellow jackets are a problem here. Last year, in my chlorine pool, I would have to manually kill yellow jackets in the pool. On the first full day of SWG, 3 yellow jackets were dead on their own? Is it a salt intake kill or a surface...

    Soft bottom vacuum?

Hi! I'm looking for a pool vacuum that has a soft bottom. Last year, we used the Pool Blaster Catfish and loved everything about it -- EXCEPT the hard wheels that caused punctures in my liner. Are there any vacuums that have maybe a foam bottom or something soft that won't puncture the vinyl...

1,700 Gallon Pool: How long until I can add chlorine?

Hi! Fresh fill of 1,300 gallons + 400 gallons of clear water that was in the winterized pool. I've just added 6 oz of CYA to my 1,700 gallon pool. I've used my pool brush to dissolve it. How long do I wait to add chlorine? When can I turn on the salt water generator? How long until CYA...

    Opening AND transitioning to SWG

HI! I'm opening my pool right now. Water is clear after removing my winter cover! Yay! Okay. Last year, it was a liquid chlorine pool. This year, I'm currently installing an SWG. Do I need to shock the pool first before adding my salt and turning on the SWG? Or, could I add the salt, set my...

Help With Transition: What size Intex salt water chlorine generator?

Awesome! So happy that I nailed it! Originally, I was concerned that it would generate too much chlorine, but: Our direct sunlight is very intense; I think extra chlorine would be okay. When I was working with chlorine last year, I remember the chlorine range being wide enough for extra...

Help With Transition: What size Intex salt water chlorine generator?

I've opted for the 12g/hr SWG, after doing calculations. I can run the SWG for a smaller amount of time (1-2 hours) as opposed to 5-6 hours with the 5g/hr SWG.

Help With Transition: What size Intex salt water chlorine generator?

Hi everyone! Thank you, in advance, for your help! I have a 1,718 gallon above-ground Intex pool, with plans to upgrade to a large pool in the future. Last year, we did chlorine, and this year, we'd like to switch to salt! My toddler has eczema, so we think this will be a nice change for her...

SLAMmed with 8% liquid bleach - CYA through roof?

Gotcha. Where I live, it only cost me $7 to slam the pool over 4 days. It would be ~$50 to fill it up. I guess this process ran me about $32, with the CYA water replacement. Last question! Do I need to shock the pool after filling halfway with fresh water? It comes in at 2ppm chlorine, 0 CYA...

SLAMmed with 8% liquid bleach - CYA through roof?

Okay! That's more along the lines of what I was thinking. Removing half of the water would bring me down to 50 CYA. Then I could remove a little more. QQ: If I had algae blooms, why should I not have messed with a SLAM?

SLAMmed with 8% liquid bleach - CYA through roof?

I wonder if the "other ingredients" in chlorox contain CYA? That's the only thing that went into my pool during the entire process. I refilled my small CYA reagent bottles before this recent test, but they were refilled from the same large bottle as the previous CYA reagent small bottles. As...

SLAMmed with 8% liquid bleach - CYA through roof?

What? I started my SLAM at 40 CYA, using liquid chlorine, 8.25% Sodium Hypochlorite. I just finished my slam, checking my levels and they are: FC: 13.5 CC: 0 CYA: 100 Where did this CYA come from???
  27. DuchessJen

Okay to get in and brush?

Oh! I should have put my current CYA on this thread! I added some water as it had evaporated, which changed my CYA to 40. That's still a slam point of 16. Okay. I'll get in and brush the pool, then slam up to 16 until CC Is 0.

Okay to get in and brush?

I was away for a week. I have a little algae bloom starting, due to 0 chlorine. I have added enough chlorine to get to 10ppm FC. I plan to re-test for CC and then slam. But I'd like to brush the pool before the slam. My pool brush is hand-held. At what point is it safe to get into the pool...
