    Pebbletec Life Expectancy

The Pebbletec finish in the catch basin of my infinity edge pool has numerous cracks primarily because there is no waterline tile so it experiences numerous wet/dry cycles. I want to add waterline tile and have the Pebbletec repaired/replaced. The Pebbletec in my main pool has no leaks and is...

    Pentair Intelliflo XF vs Intelliflo3

I have an infinity edge pool with 3" piping for the 2 infinity edge pumps. I currently have 2 Whisperflo 3hp pumps. These were installed by the previous owner and wired directly to the circuit breakers. I think there used to be Intelliflo pumps connected to the automation based on how they are...

New Pool - Infinity Edge Thoughts?

I have an infinity edge pool and while very interesting to look at and show off is not worth it in my opinion. There is constant maintenance on the edge tile and most pool companies won’t help you with problems because of the complexity. There are lots of extra pumps so something is always...

Cracked Vanishing Edge Tile & Stone

Adding some background to this issue… when I regrouted the infinity edge tiles 2 years ago, I noticed the tiles were all installed using a blob of mortar that left many of the edges and corners of tiles unsupported. See the pictures from the regrouting project. I thought the original pool...

Cracked Vanishing Edge Tile & Stone

Yes, got it for the tiles, thanks! My oscillating tool worked wonders to remove old grout. I’ll have to try it for the old mortar too. Why do you recommend type S mortar for the stones? Why not a more flexible type N mortar to prevent future cracking?

Infinity Edge Finished With Pebble Tech

I have stone on my infinity edge wall and Pebbletec in my catch basin. The stone stops above the basin water level so the top 6” or so of my basin is Pebbletec that experiences wet/dry cycles as the water level goes up and down. The top foot of the Pebbletec has lots of surface cracks. I wish my...

Cracked Vanishing Edge Tile & Stone

Correct, I didn’t mean the tiles were failing, the bond from the tiles to the wall is failing. Why do you recommend type S mortar? Since the failure is most likely caused by expansion and contraction, wouldn’t a more flexible type n or o mortar be better? For the tiles, I previously used Pool...

Cracked Vanishing Edge Tile & Stone

What specifically about the design leads to the tile failures? I’ve considered regrouting the inside tile with epoxy grout. The large grout joints on the angled tile also seems problematic that could be resolved by replacing with smaller tiles, cutting tiles, and/or not trying to align the lower...

Cracked Vanishing Edge Tile & Stone

I had a pool party yesterday and had the pool running all afternoon and evening. At the end of the party, I noticed a large crack along several of the tiles at the bottom of my vanishing edge tiles and extends down the face stone. This appeared relatively suddenly. There was no evidence of...

    Got it closed

Why should the drain plugs for the pump be removed? It seems like deep snow would melt and possibly flow into the pump drain port and possibly freeze in the pump. Why not drain everything and then replace the pump drain plugs to keep everything dry?

    Closing with Cartridge Filter

First time closing and have a cartridge filter. I plan to connect my Cyclone to one of the skimmer or return fittings to blow out the lines. Question: do I drain the system first (open pump drain plugs, open filter drain plugs)? Also, do I remove the filter cartridges before blowing the lines...

    Winterizing Sheer Descent Lines

Sounds reasonable. What is the modified cover? Is that something I make? I haven’t seen one in the pile of old equipment/supplies left by the previous owners.

    Winterizing Sheer Descent Lines

Here’s a picture of the sheer descents pump (on the left). I have so many pumps it takes several pictures to capture everything 😆. I’m the 3rd owner of the pool so whatever was installed originally may have been removed by someone that didn’t understand the design.

    Winterizing Sheer Descent Lines

I live in Maryland and plan to close my pool myself for the first time. Overall, the process seems straightforward except for winterizing the sheer descents pump. I have a dedicated pump located below the waterline that pulls water from a dedicated drain in the deep end. The return is a single...

    Max-E-Therm Automation Wiring Shorted

UPDATE: I found marine wire in-stock at Amazon that met the temperature and insulation requirements from Sta Rite. It turns out the control wires were shorted together because a mouse made a nest in the spa heater control box. The mouse chewed the 2 wires that went to the pool heater and they...

    Max-E-Therm Automation Wiring Shorted

I have a Sta Rite Max-E-Therm gas heater for my pool that is wired to my Intellitouch system. Last weekend, the automation system stopped turning the heater off. Even with the pool pump off, the heater would stay on until the pressure sensor on the heater shut it off. I did some investigating...

    Infinity edge catch basin

I do not have any tile in my catch basin and the Pebbletec has surface cracks in the wet/dry area. You are definitely on the right track with using more than a single row of tile. I would recommend at least 3 rows. Go more if you don’t plan to use an auto filler since the water level can vary by...

Intellitouch Not Communicating with IntelliPro Pump - FIXED

Final update: I got some emery cloth and polished the oxidized contacts. I confirmed continuity with my multimeter and everything works now! I can now see and adjust the RPM using ScreenLogic. Thanks for all the help everyone! TFP is awesome!!!

Intellitouch Not Communicating with IntelliPro Pump - FIXED

Polishing the pins with an emery cloth is definitely a good idea. I don't think I have any, but I'll try that. Much easier than swapping out the pins.

Intellitouch Not Communicating with IntelliPro Pump - FIXED

Yes, the pins on the board that the 4-pin terminal block plugs on to are oxidized. When I touch my multi-meter probes from one end to the other of 1 pin, I get high resistance. I'm measuring either end of a continuous piece of metal so it obviously should be very low resistance.

Intellitouch Not Communicating with IntelliPro Pump - FIXED

UPDATE: Root cause identified! It turns out the pins of the 4 pin RS485 connector on the personality board are oxidized and not providing a reliable connection. I discovered this by ohming out the pins after trying everything recommended by others on TFP. I connected the pump interface to the...

Intellitouch Not Communicating with IntelliPro Pump - FIXED

Here is the wiring showing the RS-485 cables attaching to the expansion board and the wire from the expansion board to the main board. There are 4 of the RS-485 cables at the panel, but only 2 of them are connected to a pump (pool pump and catch basin pump). My assumption is 2 of my Whisperflo...
